This video is one in a series of videos and websites which are being posted on FreeRepublic in the coming days in regard to nutritional health. In the beginning these videos were being posted as a rebuttal to an article and comments in another posted article on FreeRepublic remarking on obesity. Due to the strong interest in obesity and nutritional health as it relates to Type II Diabetes, the videos relating to Type II diabetes and how to reverse the progression of the disease are being moved forward among the other video topics in this series. Expect to see a mixture of videos regarding the role of carbohydrates in the diet and their relationship to nutritional health topics ranging from metabolic syndrome and Diabetes to dementia, Parkinson's Disease, Altzheimer's Disease, and more. The effects of standard government sponsored diets, health association diets, and alternative diets upon everyday nutrition, sports nutrition, and diabetic nutrition will be mixed in with videos focused on the use of various low carbohydrate and high fat (LCHF) diets, such as the ketogenic diets as a treatment for Type II Diabetes.

Tastes better when its genetically modified.
As a very young man I once went to a Chamber of Commerce event. I had grown up poor so my idea of elegance in food was extra crispy bacon. Well I reached down to the tray of cookies and popped one into my mouth...
The tray of cookies was salmon pate. Talk about a shock to the senses. I’ve never been able to get around salmon since.
Ping
Just don’t use Frankenfish.
Nobody makes salmon patties better than my mom did. Straight out of a can. No idea how she did it but they were awesome. ;o)
I hate to be that guy, but why would you waste a beautiful wild salmon filet on salmon patties? That’s like grinding kobe beef ribeyes into sloppy joes.
yum, kobi beef sloppy joes...
light spicy soy BBQ sauce over a brioche bun!
mmmm, great idea!
While it is not comparable to this recipe in terms of quality, I have a very simple recipe for a healthy, quick meal: take canned salmon (generally, canned salmon is healthier than what you find in the seafood department), and put it into a skillet with a bunch of butter. Cook over a low heat, adding powdered ginger, salt, turmeric, and garlic. If in doubt, add more butter (a good rule for any recipe, IMHO). Pour over cold baby spinach.
Can be made in under 1 minute, if you hustle. And it is hard to come up with a healthier meal. If you don’t find yourself licking the plate afterwards, you did something wrong.
That actually sounds pretty yummy.
I have never eaten canned salmon but, am willing to try this.
I love Chef John and have lots of his recipes ready to try. I don't always use everything he uses but for the first time, I bought some Italian parsley today and am going to freeze some of it so it won't go to waste.
I made a salmon cakes recipe with pink salmon, ate it all but didn't taste very good, don't think I'll buy pink salmon again unless it's fresh.
Chef John has some great crab rangoon, need to find canned blue crab, store didn't have it today. Also he's got a couple recipes for bay scallops. Yum.
I did his scalloped oysters last year. Highly recommended except I have to use a little more cracker crumbs in the center of the middle layer so it doesn't get soggy. Definitely will make it again if I can afford the oysters.
Enough for now. Gonna try his hand pies soon, too.
Have to make his mom's key lime pie this weekend for sure.
Thanks for posting.
Let me know how it turns out, or if you have any suggestions. The only thing that I occasionally do is sautee some scallions in with the salmon. It also works on baked sweet potato slices (sliced, microwaved, buttered, and then baked at ~400 for 15 minutes or so).
Necessity is not the mother of invention, at least not for cooking. Being single, lazy, and sick of pre-processed garbage, is.
Freezer full of Kenai and PWS reds and silvers bump..........
Ha, when I bake a salmon fillet I like to put it over uncooked salad spinach, delish. Great minds eat alike! Will try your canned salmon sometime.
That's why the Good Lord gave us canned salmon! The texture for "patties" is perfect, and --- like LibertyV said --- they're awesome.
We’re on our way to the supermarket tonight, where they are offering Fresh Atlantic Salmon at $5.99 per lb.
Yum! Sounds like a super deal!
“Have to make his mom’s key lime pie this weekend for sure.”
We’ve been experimenting with key lime pie for awhile now. We started out by making it the traditional way with the sugar-loaded sweetened condensed milk in the can and the sweetened graham cracker crust as a basis for comparison. Then we went to an extreme opposite end of the scale by removing the sweetened condensed milk and substituting varying proportions of cream cheese, unflavored gelatin, and so forth while using Stevia as the non-glycemic and natural sweetener. The result was too bitter with the infamous Stevia aftertaste. Then we started to experiment with compromises by using the blend of stevia with very limited amounts of pure cane sugar to offset the bitterness of the Stevia. We finally came up with a fairly decent tasting key lime pie that reduced the grams of carbohydrate to relatively low levels per slice. In the future we plan to experiment with replacing the graham cracker crust loaded with sugars with low carbohydrate versions of coconut or almond pie crusts.
There is nothing on this earth better than wild salmon.
