MICHAEL WANG, a young Californian, came second in his class of 1,002 students; his ACT score was 36, the maximum possible; he sang at Barack Obamas inauguration; he got third place in a national piano contest; he was in the top 150 of a national maths competition; he was in several national debating-competition finals. But when it came to his university application he faced a serious disappointment for the first time in his glittering career. He was rejected by six of the seven Ivy League colleges to which he applied.
I saw people less qualified than me get better offers, says Mr Wang. At first I was just angry. Then I decided to turn that anger to productive use. He wrote to the universities concerned. I asked: what more could I have done to get into your college? Was it based on race, or what was it based on? He got vague responsesor none. So he complained to the Department of Education. Nothing came of it. The department said they needed a smoking gun.
In May this year Mr Wang joined a group of 64 Asian-American organisations that made a joint complaint to the Department of Education against Harvard, alleging racial discrimination. That follows a lawsuit filed last year against Harvard and the University of North Carolina by a group of Asian-American students making similar charges. The department rejected the claim in July, but another two complaints have since been filed by Asian-Americans, one against Harvard and one against nine other universities.

You can’t make an omelet......
If the young man is still a democrat, he should not complain.
Affirmative action rewards some, and at the same time, punishes others.
I can understand why affirmative action may have made some sense in 1965, but don’t understand why we still have it. And also don’t understand how affirmative action morphed into quota systems. There has been lots of anecdotal evidence that Asians are discriminated against to make way for less qualified applicants of other ethnicities.
Oh, this is fun.
Affirmative action does not reward ‘some.’ It rewards low performers at the expense of the more qualified.
Quotas are quotas, racism is racism, and "affirmative action" has ALWAYS been both.
Ping.
Upset that apple cart.
Thanks for posting.

.....or kimchee
It demonstrates he swallowed the "hope and change" rubbish and is highly credulous. I wouldn't accept him either.
I saw just last week that one of the Ivy League school cleared itself of racism against high-achieving asians.
Oh he will see how much of a “minority” he is she he starts to get uppity about how the leftist plantation masters aren’t treating him as well as the blacks or gays.
What did he want to happen? Obviously, he expected to get into all of them..and he deserved to do so, on the merits. Then there's a big story in the local paper, with pictures of all seven letters, and Wang sits back and decides which is the better deal.
Meantime, 6 colleges get there tentative freshman classes screwed up, and more likely, 6 other kids who wanted to really go to either Yale, or Penn, or Dartmouth..didn't get in initially, because Wang took a spot. The Ivies communicate with each other..they know which kids applied to all of them..it's not hard to find out...and so they punished him..and more likely, they'll punish a kid from his HS who applies to one or more of them NEXT year..as a way of making the point to the school's guidance counselors..who should know better.
>> he sang at Barack Obamas inauguration<<
May he end his life working graveyard shift at MacDonald’s: bitter and alone.
