ITHACA, N.Y. Kurt A. Jordan, associate professor in Cornell Universitys department of anthropology and Native American studies, has found evidence through his research that suggests several parts of Ithaca lies above ancient burial grounds of Haudenosaunee Indians.
Jordan said his finding are based on a paper trail of books and documents, some dating centuries ago, because he didnt have the permission to excavate in Ithaca.

The following is from the same:
Cody was born Espera Oscar de Corti on April 3, 1904, in Kaplan in Vermilion Parish, in southwestern Louisiana, a second son of Antonio de Corti and his wife, Francesca Salpietra, immigrants from Sicily.
He had two brothers, Joseph and Frank, and a sister, Victoria. His parents had a local grocery store in Gueydan, Louisiana, where he grew up. His father left the family and moved to Texas, where he took the name Tony Corti. His mother married Alton Abshire and had five more children with him.
"Nearly all my life, it has been my policy to help those less fortunate than myself. My foremost endeavors have been with the help of the Great Spirit to dignify my People's image through humility and love of my country. It is my sincerest wish to reach the hearts of the people of the world by my Keep America Beautiful film of 'The Crying Indian' so they will be more aware of the dangers of pollution facing the world today. If I have done that, then I have done all I need to do!"

Re: Of course he would deny that he was Italian...”
I shouldn’t have said “of course”, but rather, it would be no great surprise that he would deny it.
For what it’s worth, I am half Italian, with a trace of Cherokee Indian on my (late) father’s side. :)
* Iron Eyes was born April 3, 1904 at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, and passed away January 4, 1999. He was from the Cree-Cherokee Tribes.*

Lol! My mother was 100% Italian. My father was from eastern Tennessee, near the Smokey Mts. His father, I was told, and you could see it in his face and skin complexion, was half Cherokee. He and my father served together in the Navy. In fact, that was how my parents met. They met while my father was on leave visiting Central Park (in NYC).

I imagine would be hard pressed to find any town or city that is not sitting on some previous cultures settlement or burial ground.
If previous occupants found the site suitable for habitation- reason states that so would following occupants
I agree. What i never understood is how the further archaeologists dig down in an area the earlier the civilizations they find.
What happens? those people and their homes and business just shrunk into the ground? confuses me.
My theory-
The previous settlement dies out for some reason- disease, changing climate, war or invasion.
The remaining people decamp.
The site falls in to disrepair, then nature takes over. Grass then trees take over, buildings collapse rot away. The dust and debris fall into foundations.
After years the landscape is back to natural, whatever caused this space to be habitable is appealing to next humans. They start the cycle over again.
Machu Pichu (sp) comes to mind, pull back the jungle- there is a city and lost civilization.
