Human hunting weapons may not have caused the demise of the Neanderthals
Phys dot org ^ | April 28, 2015 | Journal of Human Evolution

"We looked at the basic timeline revealed by similar stone points, and it shows that humans were using them in Europe before they appeared in the Levant - the opposite of what we'd expect if the innovation had led to the humans' migration from Africa to Europe," said Dr. Kadowaki.

"Our new findings mean that the research community now needs to reconsider the assumption that our ancestors moved to Europe and succeeded where Neanderthals failed because of cultural and technological innovations brought from Africa or west Asia."

By re-examining the evidence, the researchers showed that the comparable stone weapons appeared in Europe around 42,000 years ago, and in the Levant 39,000 years ago. They believe the timings imply several new scenarios about the migration of modern humans into Europe. For example, they are likely to have migrated to Europe much earlier, and developed the tools there.

"We're very excited about our new model. We think the causes of human evolution are more complicated than just being about technology. Now that we've re-examined the traditional model about the northern migration route to Europe, we are planning to re-evaluate the model on the southern migration route - from East Africa to South Asia" said Dr. Kadowaki.

What it may mean is, the constant saddling on of reasons for alleged N extinction includes supposed differences in hunting styles. The differences basically don’t exist, and the anatomical differences that are supposed to be oh-so crucial are imaginary, much like the ongoing “Neandertal couldn’t talk” fiasco.

Given the Neanderthal DNA found in European and Asian people, but not in sub-Saharan African people, my guess is that African humans interbred with Neanderthals, and the resulting hybrid was superior to either ancestor in the northern environment.

>>The word “Levant” dates back many centuries:

Plenty of words that have been used in the past have taken on new meanings in the Progressive NewSpeak. I agree that Levant is not a new word to describe the region, but today it is a code word for the (to coin a phrase) “Greater Islamic Co-Prosperity Sphere”, a place where there is no room for Christianity or Israel.

Obviously, you’re an atheist and reject God, His Word and perfect wisdom and Christ/God as our savior and messiah.

As I understand the paper--"Variability in Early Ahmarian lithic technology and its implications for the model of a Levantine origin of the Protoaurignacian"--their research supports the model that Ahmarian weapons in the Levant appeared later than those in Europe. The only mention of Neanderthals are side comments in the last section.

I suspect that phys.org neglected to link to this article from last month: "Were humans really more inventive than Neanderthals?".

As a white male Christian, we are constantly under attack for embracing God’s perfect wisdom. That said, I’ve always wondered how to square “Neanderthal” with God’s Word in the Bible and Adam/Eve. Any comments will be appreciated...

The neanderthal was eve's no good unemployed brother-in-law.

We have a Neanderthal running the White House and her husband.

The Neanderthal Man story is complete fiction. One skeleton of a guy with deformatures does not support the crafty tall tale called evolution. Look up “Nebraska Man” pig tooth controversy. Never in history has there been a beneficial genetic mutation. That is settled science!

Thanks, Jan - I’ve always believed God’s Word was perfect and yet so many pseudo-scientists continue to push false “settled science”

knarf: "Then the proponents of ISIS (the firt guys to hit America with the term) were complicit in confusing people and are part of a conspiracy to make o’dumbo look dumb"

I'm not "getting" what you're driving toward here.
The Arabic name that group gave itself is: Al-Dawla al-Islamiya fi al-Iraq wa al-Sham, whose acronym DAIISH (pronounced "dash") is apparently insulting, and so not often used in English.

Instead, the media normally uses "Islamic State in Iraq & Syria", shortened to : ISIS.
But "Isis" is also an ancient Egyptian goddess, and doesn't really express what those people hope to achieve, which is a caliphate throughout the Middle Eastern Levant.

So, our none-too-soon-to-be former administration officials call them, "Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant" -- ISIL.
Bottom line: the word "ISIS" tells us what they are today = in Iraq and Syria, while
the administration's word "ISIL" tells us what they want to be = rulers over the entire Levant.

My opinion, for what it's worth, is that since we are told the acronym "DAIISH" is somewhat insulting, that's what we should call them.

Do you disagree?

Bryanw92: "...today it is a code word for the (to coin a phrase) “Greater Islamic Co-Prosperity Sphere”, a place where there is no room for Christianity or Israel."

Agreed.
Do you remember the first Gulf War, where Bush the Elder kept mispronouncing Saddam Hussein's first name as Sad-am, "Sad" as in "sad man".
Well, we learned much later, that pronunciation is highly insulting and means in Arabic something along the lines of "a piece of dirt".
Bush was using Saddam's name to insult him.

I'm saying that's what we should do with "DAIISH" -- call them by a name they themselves consider insulting, and let it be repeated as often as possible.

Do you disagree?

I had never heard of DAIISH until now, so I googled it. I prefer to call all muslims Mohammedans since all they are is a cult of a man. So, I certainly do agree just as I believe that the modern usage of Levant is a rallying cry to the Mohammedans who wish to overrun the modern nation of Israel.

Because the Neandertal DNA is found in living people. The book you mention is just another “conclusion to fit the assumptions” speculation and waste of everyone’s time.

My guess is, another common ancestor bred with both, or actually all other types (Erectus was still around early on), leading to both the common current groups and their obvious ethnic differences.

New story:

The reason for the Northern appearance of the stone points was because the homo sapiens sapiens immigrants were unable to copy the Ice V points made by the Neanderthals who sung them into existence on the glaciers using their tonal language which the sapiens were also unable to duplicate. The sapiens did the next next thing and made theirs out of stone ...

How can they be sure that the “Neanderthal” was not just a larger-boned, different human? If they can tell a white person, black person, Hispanic from a SKELETON why can’t the Neanderthal just be a human that was say in a pocket of the world that didn’t get out much, like those aborigines they’ve found around the planet? My husband’s uncles had heads just lie that Neanderthal. ;)

I am not convinced they are something other than human.

DAIISH is a new one to me

I remember hearing about ISIS and I thought, "THAT'S a weird name ... but so is the Philippine MILF .. so ... whatever .. "

And that's pretty much the way I got it

Then .. later .. obozo started using ISIL and I had a hard time accepting that ... even though it was explained here in FR

Have you ever been introduced to Mr or Mrs so and so and even though you became good friends ... they remained MR and or MRS so and so ?

THAT'S what I mean ... I started with ISIS an ISIS it is

This will all be as forgotten as Kosavars are now.

soon
