One is from Chicago, another is from Tennessee, and the third is from Minnesota. All three go with a White House official to examine the fence. The Minnesota contractor takes out a tape measure and does somemeasuring, then works some figures with a pencil.Well, he says, I figure the job will run about $900: $400 formaterials, $400 for my crew and $100 profit for me.The Tennessee contractor also does some measuring and figuring, thensays, I can do this job for $700: $300 for materials, $300 for mycrew and $100 profit for me.The Chicago contractor doesnt measure or figure, but leans over tothe White House official and whispers, $2,700.The official, incredulous, says, You didnt even measure like theother guys! How did you come up with such a high figure? The Chicago contractor whispers back, $1000 for me, $1000 for you,and we hire the guy from Tennessee to fix the fence.Done! replies the government official.
And that, my friends, is how the new stimulus plan works!
Well, if the TN firms wins the contract, they’ll be fixin to fix it...
Sigh.. it’d be funny if it wasn’t so true..
Slight correction:
1,000 for me, 1,000 for you, 1,000 for Obama, and we will hire some illegals with the rest of the money and use the broken parts.
And if you wonder where the other 1,000 comes from, the taxpayers will pay it without any question.
Plus another 500 for the guys who keep breaking the fence so they can repeat the process for the next budget.
Sadly the joke is from real and practical politics.
Great joke.
Unfortunately in reality it’s $1,350.00 for me, $1,350 for you and the fence stays broken.
“We’ll close down the government if those racist Republicans don’t agree to allocate more money for the fence crisis.”
PING
Really?
Don’t we have maintenance staff to take care of such things?
If the answer is no; then I’m guessing they let them go so they could recoup their salaries and hire out (like Chicago); right?
that is the way they do it in the windy city. DC is probably more like 2000.00 each and the actual contractor that fixes it is more like triple that cost with cost overuns, delays and kickbacks!
And if you wonder where the other 1,000 comes from, the taxpayers will pay it without any question.”
You forgot the part about the House voting unanimously to approve the funding.
How much will the environmental impact study cost?
Chuck at an early age.
Except that the Chicago guy and the WH guy actuallypocket the $2700 for the two of them and don’t bother to do the job at all
