The country needs to make it easier to lock up for everyone’s good those who are a continuous danger to others because they are crazy.

Trying to get help for a dangerous, psychotic child is terribly difficult. I know a family who faced the same thing with their six-foot-tall, 180-pound schizophrenic sixteen-year-old, who nearly killed his mother and two little sisters. She too was threatened with jail time. It was a nightmare. Even the rich cannot keep a kid locked up indefinitely, and this family was far from rich.

No father? I’d like to hear what the child has lived through. I wonder what would make a 12 year old so bad.

Unfortunately you’re right. We need to pray for her.

This is a ridiculous situation. The boy is a danger to others, and should be institutionalized.

Why should the state take responsibility and pay for it, to boot?!

I know a kid that was institutionalized for trying to split his mom’s head with an axe at 12. He’s autistic. Saw them grocery shopping yesterday. He’s gotta be 20 or so.

there is no "help he needs".....unless its totally medicated so this boy is nearly catatonic..

its not counseling...its not behavior therapy...its not basketball...its not Vit D....

some are born screwed up mentally and can't be fixed...the best we can do is protect them from themselves and protect society from them..

I have a friend who had two boys and one was the spawn of Satan. He attacked her etc. Very bad news. She finally had to put him in a military academy. I guess he is not a criminal now but totally estranged from her. Very sad.

I don’t know Virginia laws but in Tennessee a parent who honest to goodness has a mentally disturbed child who is dangerous to self and others can petition the court to have the child declared Ward Of The State. A judge will order institutionalization if it is deemed needed by professional mental health experts. This isn’t a new crisis. It’s sad but such kids have always existed and it’s for their own safety and that of others they have to be committed and have professional 24/7/365 care. Such parents as these and the children need help & not threats.

In our state if parents refuse to take a dangerous child home, and there is evidence of a problem off to residential. There are kids who should be locked up. Too dangerous from the get go

When you hear the stories about how 6 cops were called into subdue a third grader, know that the third grader is probably 11 or 12 or an out of control dangerous kid.

Now, instead of treatment and compassion, we put crazy people in jails and prisons where they will get no treatment or compassion.

Cause it's better for them to be free than to be institutionalized.
