In the West, 90% of Downs babies are aborted.

Lets be fair. Many people give up their downs babies. That is why that there is downs adoption sites. Years ago I volunteered in a state facility and many people left their downs kids there. a number of people do not want developmentally delayed kids.

None of my kids are Downs Syndrome but I did had a good deal of contact with Downs Syndrome adults at the hospital where I worked (our hospital didn't have a pediatrics service so we didn't see any afflicted kids).Although all of the ones I had contact with were at least somewhat ill...if not very ill...I found them to be gentle people with sweet dispositions.Almost childlike,in fact.
Yes,having a Downs Syndrome child could,I'm sure,be a challenge but given their basic nature I'll bet that the rewards could easily outweigh the challenges.

Maybe real Christians should set up large facilities to take care of a lot of kids, sort of like orphanages use to be?

Well, at least they paid for somebody to care for him.
Generally now most children like that are aborted after amniocentisis, so at least he got to live.

______________
Most orphanages were Christian in the Western world. The government got involved and most closed. There are still orphanages in third world countries, many run by Christians.
Most Downs babies make a good income for the “professional” adopting parents. Downs babies come with quite the chunk of monies and supports from the government.

I don’t deny that. I guess they didn’t want to deal. They can walk away from the problem legally, which they cannot do here.

_____________
Actually the more I think of it, they probably have to do some sort of adoption arabesque to get the babies into the country and cannot un-adopt a child they bring in. I bet that is part of the issue. They would then risk losing the other child. The courts frown on people who adopt then break the adoption.
