When mice with the human equivalent of Type 2 diabetes were injected with the protein FGF1, their blood sugar levels returned to normal over two days. Just one injection of the protein both regulated these levels and even helped reverse insulin insensitivity the underlying cause of diabetes.
Published in the journal Nature, the research on FGF1 could revolutionize diabetes treatment.
In addition to being effective against diabetes, the protein has several advantages over current diabetes drugs. It does not result in dangerous side effects seen with other diabetes drugs, such as heart problems, weight gain, or hypoglycemia. Additionally, FGF1 not only increased insulin levels but also helped the mice regain their own ability to regulate insulin.

This is such major breakthrough that I think it's worth Frontpage placement.
If diabetes can be cured, that will also eliminate all the other diseases it causes.

If this is successful, it will have to cost $10,000 per shot to make the diabetes industry happy. Diabetes is a cash cow for Big Pharma.

That is awesome news since I happen to be Type 2. I wonder when can this injection be utilized to the public.

Diabetes is a cash cow for Big Pharma.Type 2 diabetes is completly preventable and completly treatable with diet and exercise. And Statins are the biggest medical scam in history.
Big Pharma will be fighting.

It’s probably against the law to cure diabetes.

the research on FGF1 could revolutionize diabetes treatment. But not until Novo Nordisk finds a way to make sufficient money off of it to replace their soon-to-be useless insulin production.

Type 2 diabetes is completly preventable and completly treatable with diet and exercise. And Statins are the biggest medical scam in history. Exactly correct. Most of the modern metabolic degenerative diseases (heart disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, etc) are directly related to diet.

If this is successful, it will have to cost $10,000 per shot to make the diabetes industry happy. Diabetes is a cash cow for Big Pharma. BS. You sound like Obama and his charge of doctors exploiting their patients with unnecessary operations. So are we supposed to conclude that "Big Pharma" is against curing Type 2 diabetes or any other disease that eats into their profits? Do you think anyone associated with "Big Pharma" has Type 2 diatetes?
I am no fan of "Big Pharma" and the deal they struck with Obama on Obamacare, but it is over the top to think that they would be unhappy with this recent news.

Any FReepers associated with the research industry? You could order FGF1
here and set up a 'research trial' for any of us who would be willing to try this--there's no logical reason for FGF1 to cause any ill side effects as far as I can tell...

Type 2 is not “completely preventable.”
The trait can be inherited.
