But your credit is ruined.
You are stealing.
I haven’t paid on my credit cards in 6 months....because I paid them all off.
Honor your commitments.
Why not just pay the bill and avoid all the hassle?
Reneging on your justly-incurred debts is theft.
If the original creditor is so desperate that it would sell the debt for a penny on the dollar, he would probably accept an honest settlement offer.
This belongs on Dummy Underground, not here.
If you do this intentionally then this course of action is you committing FRAUD!
I have been falsely billed by Verizon for ten years now. I worked out the error with their representative and he agreed that the bill was a duplicate and he told me that I could disregard future invoices on the matter. In fact, I was convinced that the bill was a triplicate. I had moved and changed banks at about the same time but I absolutely paid their bill, and I was annoyed when I was sure I had double paid them.
A few months after that talk I began receiving the bogus bill once again along with threats of legal action.
I like this idea a lot as working it out proved fruitless and there seems to be no reasoning with these people who perpetuate this false charge against me.
I like this idea a lot for my case. By the way, the total $$$ is shy of 50 Bucks. It us not just the money, it is the principle of the thing.
It also appears to be worth what your word and sense of responsibility are worth. You try to equate the collection agencies (many suck, but that's not the point) to being worse than the deadbeats that don't pay their bills.
I have been hired to hunt and torture, then kill, people just like you.
Think about it. After you’ve ruined your credit with legitimate financial sources, you might have to borrow on the street from a guy named Vito. Fail to repay Vito, and you get a busted kneecap or worse. Takes debt collection to a new level doesn’t it. Pay your debts...live free.
I got rid of our last credit card in 2000. Pay everything, including cars, in cash and own our homes outright.
It is a great feeling to know we are not in debt and that everything we have is ours.
So if I owe you money, I should refuse to pay you to save me money.
Sux2bu in that case.
What you are doing is criminal. It’s called larceny, and fraud. Based on your post, you are doing this with intent.
Not only should your credit be ruined, you should spend some time in the local county jail.
Credit comes from the Latin word for belief, trust. When you undertake a debt, you make an agreement to repay the it under the terms of the contract. Failing to do so when you are able to, regardless of your original intent, makes you a thief. The fact that the creditor was unwilling to pursue his claim legally makes no difference.
You realize that not paying your credit card bills eventually will cost all of us a lot more down the road? Companies aren’t just going to absorb the unpaid debt Eventually, that debt gets passed on to others, including those of us who pay our bills when they’re due. Is it fair to make the rest of us in effect pay your debt?
I’ve never made any purchase on credit that I didn’t have the money already budgeted. When I became disabled and could no longer work, one of the first things I did was be sure all of my credit cards were paid in full. Then I discontinued all but one of the cards. I keep the one card only for situations where paying by check is a hassle and it’s not feasible to carry around wads of cash.
Yes unforeseen events such as job loss or catastrophic illness do occur, but you can avoid or at least minimize the effects by not living beyond your means and having some money set aside for such contingencies. Before you make a major purchase, ask yourself, do I really need this big screen TV or whatever and if so, do I have the money to pay for it?
