With her children grown, Trisha Eck thought it would be fun to go from being a stay-at-home mom to a small entrepreneurso she rented a room at a medical spa, where she started her own business, Tooth Fairies Teeth Whitening.
She purchased equipment and supplies from a vendor she met at a trade show, including non-prescription strength teeth whitening gels. Customers could purchase her products as a take home kit or apply them to their own teeth while visiting the spa. Since shes not a dentist, Eck says she never performed the treatments on customers but was there to offer instructions. [ ]
But state regulators werent smiling. This spring, Eck received a cease and desist order from the Georgia Board of Dentistry, after one of its investigators determined her business was an unlicensed dental practice.
He comes from the dental board, and hes telling me he can shut me down. He can fine me; I could face prison time, Eck said. Thats a little intimidating.

bureaucrats looking for problems that don’t exist
My dental hygienist recommended a commercial product as equally effective and much less expensive than treatment at the dentist’s office.
My dentist told me to avoid “whitening” methods. Most of them work by breaking down the surface enamel where the stains are and can bring on or exacerbate sensitive teeth. I already have that problem, no way am I going to make it worse.
ahhh dentists, about the only field as bad as used car salesman.
Nope. Dentists looking to protect their turf.
At least with a used car, it doesn’t cost me $135 to clean it.
Clean them yourself every month or so —only scary the first and second times, maybe. After five time’s you’re a pro. Now I can do it without even looking AS I DRIVE (pretty reckless, I conceed).
Scrape carefully at and a little under the gumline “sub-gingival”, if ya wanna sound all smart.
A little bleeding the first 10 or so times you do it, less and less, each time.
What is every time you had to BRUSH YOUR HAIR you had it done at a SALON? You’d spend a bundle and usually go around with messy hair.
That’s stupid.
The cleanings don’t bother me so much. Its the “oh the roots dying and you need a root canal and a crown, and you really should do crowns on 4 so they all look the same” for $6,000 that bugs me.
It was nearly an emergency if I wanted to save the tooth. That was 10 years ago and I still have it and the root still tests ok. bastard probably had a BMW payment due.
$15 from New York:
This won’t substitute for a root canal —it will only make that requirement needed MUCH less often (I’ve never needed one in the 12 years I’ve been doing my own dental cleanings and my teeth are like freaking Hollywood, and for NO CHARGE).
Don’t be a sucker and pay a creeper $100 every time you need a simple dental cleaning, something you can do yourself in 10 minutes.
Salt and baking soda.
Bingo.
I AGREE - salt and baking soda is DA BOMB..!
I no longer use “real” toothpaste, which I consider as something for stupid suckers.
U can also sometimes use a little essential oil of Thyme (the active ingredient of Listerine and other mouth washes).
You have to dilute it in some kind of carrier oil (take your pick which one).
Do you add H2O2?
What ratio for salt and baking soda?
I usually go about 2/3 soda, 1/3 salt.
It’s very easy to use too much —u really only need a very little.
Next time you buy “real” toothpaste, turn around the box and read the ingredients —what’s in there to kill bacteria and fungus?
Basically nothing.
Many also have SOME form of sugar, which you really don’t need to be applying to your teeth, since we eat so much of it anyway.
ARTICLE III. LEGISLATIVE BRANCH SECTION I. LEGISLATIVE POWERParagraph I. Power vested in General Assembly. The legislative power of the state shall be vested in a General Assembly which shall consist of a Senate and a House of Representatives.
Now lets examine the context of this Georgia issue.
"This spring, Eck received a cease and desist order from the Georgia Board of Dentistry, after one of its investigators determined her business was an unlicensed dental practice [emphasis added]."
Although this provision from Georgia's Constitution is not worded the same as the federal Constitution's Section 1-3 of Article I, given that the members of the Georgia board of Dentistry are probably not elected members of Georgia's Senate and HoR, Georgia's Board of Dentistry is seemingly making decisions for citizens for which it has no legislative / regulatory power to do under Georgia's constitution.
So while I agree in principle with the action of this dentristry board from the perspective of public health, unless I'm overlooking something else in the Georgia Constitution, this legal action by the dentristy board is arguably being implemented outside the framework of Georgia's Constitution.
Corrections, insights welcome.
And since Georgia parents probably aren't making sure that their children are being taught their state's constitution any more than the federal Constitution, it doesn't surprise me to see a state ignoring its constitution.
Same reason the AMA frowns on chiropractors - cash.
