And they called DR ATKINS a Quack!

Still do, in spite of the proof that he was right.

I take a 100 mg Vit C tablet with an iron supplement as well to maximize efficiency of the latter. Used to be 500 mg but then there were those studies about a higher dose slighly increasing chances for kidney stone. It is always something. :)

yes i heard about kidney stone but so far i am lucky and no problem on that

i take iron for blood , i am not sure everyone needs it but i take it to raise hemo count

so we are doing much the same thing.
i also take a multivitamin each day. i feel a lot better. i therefore believe that i may have been not getting enough of something in the multivitamin. i havent the time to try to sort out just which ingredient that may be. but the multi is doing the job and i am happy to settle with that!

all the best,

I see you are a ‘respector’ of ‘degrees’. Medical degrees do not make one knowledgeable regarding good health practices. They know how to push drugs from the Big Pharma and too many do this w/o regard to the risks in the drugs they push. The FDA supports this enterprise because they are in the business of protecting Big Pharma, not ‘we the people’. So go ahead, believe what you wish to believe, and don’t let truth get in your way.

I like chlorophyll, but vitamins are only supposed to be food anyway.

are you on Iodoral or Lugol’s, or something else? Are you linked to Stephanie’s Facebook page ‘iodine4life’?

I’m a huge proponent of magnesium dosing; the right form and the right amount. There is information out there that mag deficiency leads to addictive behaviors. Try mag glycinate at 600-800 mg/day and see if you don’t get relief. Also, mag allows all other nutrients to work/absorb so alot of what we take or consume is ineffective if we’re low on mag, including vit D.

I’ll chime in on the iodine thing; the best form is either Iodoral, which is pill form, or Lugol’s which is liquid. Both have the right ratio of iodide to iodine.

I buy mine at either www.breastcancerchoices.org or Swanson’s Vitamins. Swanson’s often offers coupons and has free shipping.

The typical maintenance dose of iodine is 50mg/day. The RDA in the US is 150 mcg, or about 5000x less than what you should be getting. Just know that iodine is a VERY effective detox so you need to be on the ‘protocol’ of other supps which are: magnesium, selenium, vitamin C and good (unrefined) salt.

you should be on 6000 mg of vit C a day, or more. 100mg is nothing.

Vit C does not cause kidney stones, lack of magnesium dose. Calcium cannot dissolve when you are deficient in mag. Kidney stones are calcifications. Take good mag and up your dose of Vit C, get on iodine selenium and salt and what yourself soar!

I’m pretty certain that doctors accept the importance of Vit D supplementation and that it has proven health benefits. Also many people are Vit D deficient. A one a day daily recommended dose of Vit D is not enough, so in that sense the article is accurate but it could mislead people not to take vitamins like C and D.

The vast majority of “multi-vitamin” products are very low quality, using synthetic rather than organically produced vitamins.

There are some multis that are useful.

Pregnancy? If you wouldn’t give a month-old baby a bunch of large adult vitamin pills you probably shouldn’t be taking vitamin during pregnancy. Of course, check with your doctor...

>> “I read years ago that vitamin, “I think C” would prevent scurvy.” <<

The man who discovered vitamin C found that the vitamin alone will not cure scurvy, one has to consume the whole flesh of the fruit to cure scurvy.

Vitamins and herbs are not homeopathic remedies, they are holistic remedies. Homeopathy mostly doesn’t do anything.

A hoagie a day keeps the doctor away.

Now you're talkin'!

For me it's gotta be from the old (now sadly in decline) neighborhood...Greenman's Whole Italian (I think they now call it "Original"). I was VERY healthy as a kid...!

Greenman's

Tell you what. You get pregnant, march into your OB’s office and announce you won’t be taking any prenatal vitamins.

Let me know what sort of reaction you get...

The problem is the perfect diet. Many people consume good foods yet may still need vitamins. I take D3 after the doc checked my levels and found it low by anyone’s scale. Over the years I have found not taking it results in sluggish brain activity and more colds. I take a minimum amount to maintain proper blood levels that are checked annually.
