Mentally strong people have healthy habits. They manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in ways that set them up for success in life. Check out these things that mentally strong people dont do so that you too can become more mentally strong.
1. They Dont Waste Time Feeling Sorry for Themselves
Mentally strong people dont sit around feeling sorry about their circumstances or how others have treated them. Instead, they take responsibility for their role in life and understand that life isnt always easy or fair.
2. They Dont Give Away Their Power
They dont allow others to control them, and they dont give someone else power over them. They dont say things like, My boss makes me feel bad, because they understand that they are in control over their own emotions and they have a choice in how they respond.
3. They Dont Shy Away from Change
Mentally strong people dont try to avoid change. Instead, they welcome positive change and are willing to be flexible. They understand that change is inevitable and believe in their abilities to adapt.
4. They Dont Waste Energy on Things They Cant Control
You wont hear a mentally strong person complaining over lost luggage or traffic jams. Instead, they focus on what they can control in their lives. They recognize that sometimes, the only thing they can control is their attitude.
5. They Dont Worry About Pleasing Everyone
Mentally strong people recognize that they dont need to please everyone all the time. Theyre not afraid to say no or speak up when necessary. They strive to be kind and fair, but can handle other people being upset if they didnt make them happy.
6. They Dont Fear Taking Calculated Risks
They dont take reckless or foolish risks, but dont mind taking calculated risks. Mentally strong people spend time weighing the risks and benefits before making a big decision, and theyre fully informed of the potential downsides before they take action.
7. They Dont Dwell on the Past
Mentally strong people dont waste time dwelling on the past and wishing things could be different. They acknowledge their past and can say what theyve learned from it. However, they dont constantly relive bad experiences or fantasize about the glory days. Instead, they live for the present and plan for the future.
8. They Dont Make the Same Mistakes Over and Over
Mentally strong people accept responsibility for their behavior and learn from their past mistakes. As a result, they dont keep repeating those mistakes over and over. Instead, they move on and make better decisions in the future.
9. They Dont Resent Other Peoples Success
Mentally strong people can appreciate and celebrate other peoples success in life. They dont grow jealous or feel cheated when others surpass them. Instead, they recognize that success comes with hard work, and they are willing to work hard for their own chance at success.
10. They Dont Give Up After the First Failure
Mentally strong people dont view failure as a reason to give up. Instead, they use failure as an opportunity to grow and improve. They are willing to keep trying until they get it right.
11. They Dont Fear Alone Time
Mentally strong people can tolerate being alone and they dont fear silence. They arent afraid to be alone with their thoughts and they can use downtime to be productive. They enjoy their own company and arent dependent on others for companionship and entertainment all the time but instead can be happy alone.
12. They Dont Feel the World Owes Them Anything
Mentally strong people dont feel entitled to things in life. They werent born with a mentality that others would take care of them or that the world must give them something. Instead, they look for opportunities based on their own merits.
13. They Dont Expect Immediate Results
Whether they are working on improving their health or getting a new business off the ground, mentally strong people dont expect immediate results. Instead, they apply their skills and time to the best of their ability and understand that real change takes time.
Following the huge popularity of this post, article source Amy Morin has authored a Dec. 3 guest post on exercises to increase mental strength here. Cheryl Conner has also interviewed Amy Morin in a Forbes video chat that expands on this article here.
They don’t read lists of what someone else thinks are the hallmarks of being a mentally strong person? ;-P
Most of those are on my list of why I don’t experience stress and enjoy my life. I don’t know if they make me strong, but they way simplify and enhance life.
Chuckle.
THey don’r really care whether they are seen by others as being “mentally strong”.
These can be taken a number of different ways. If you distill it down, you realize that liberalism IS a mental disorder:
1. They Dont Waste Time Feeling Sorry for Themselves
Victimization is the Democrat calling card of Identity Politics. Get on the plantation or else be eaten by Republican wolves. “Put y’all back in chains!” “War on Women!” “Bedroom police!”...
2. They Dont Give Away Their Power
Socialism is slavery to the State.
3. They Dont Shy Away from Change
But my daddy’s daddy voted Democrat and it was good enough for them.
4. They Dont Waste Energy on Things They Cant Control
“GLOBAL WARMING! ARRRRGHHHH!” “WHY are people still poor in this world?!!!” “Some nutjob just KILLED innocent people even though weapons were BANNED!!!”
5. They Dont Worry About Pleasing Everyone
“But WHAT would the United Nations say about us?”
6. They Dont Fear Taking Calculated Risks
“Personal savings and retirement investments could leave people helpless in their old age. Let Uncle Sam manage your money.”
7. They Dont Dwell on the Past
“Did you HEAR what happened when people came to ‘America’? They stole land, raped, and plundered!!!”
8. They Dont Make the Same Mistakes Over and Over
“Ferrandcare, Kennedycare, Hillarycare, Obamacare...”, Jimmy Carter II, the re-election of Barack Obama...
9. They Dont Resent Other Peoples Success
“You didn’t build that!” “White priviledge.””The workers control the means of production.” “All property is theft.”
10. They Dont Give Up After the First Failure
11. They Dont Fear Alone Time
12. They Dont Feel the World Owes Them Anything
Bwahahahahahahaha.
13. They Dont Expect Immediate Results
“World War II was won in just 4 years!”
Take the opposite of all those and you will have your average liberal.
I would never read a list of 13 anything.
Scares, depresses and nauseates me too much.
Mentally strong people can appreciate and celebrate other people’s success in life. They don’t grow jealous or feel cheated when others surpass them. Instead, they recognize that success comes with hard work, and they are willing to work hard for their own chance at success.
Liberals (Mentally ill people) on the other hand are very resentful of other people's success. And their wealth and riches. As a result, they try to tax and redistribute that wealth.
Haha, they wouldn’t need to, true.
4. They Dont Waste Energy on Things They Cant Control - You wont hear a mentally strong person complaining over lost luggage or traffic jams. Instead, they focus on what they can control in their lives. They recognize that sometimes, the only thing they can control is their attitude.
"Accept it, Obama won, you HAVE to pass his agenda."
"We GAVE 'capitalism' a chance, now it is time to move on."
"You cannot cling to religion and guns any longer. It divides people, leads to discrimination against alternative (yet natural) lifestyles, and causes grief for the victims of gun violence."
etc. etc.
If some distrated, inconsiderate road hog is texting while driving, veering from lane to lane, slowing down by 5-10 miles to avoid a collision, etc, I CAN take personal control of my own vehicle to get AROUND the yay-hoo. I can EVEN opt to drive on a different road.
And while I may not be able to "control" some union stooge from losing my luggage, I can opt to change carriers in the future. Also sometimes (but not always) squeaky wheel gets the grease. If you aren't so concerned by it, they may choose to ignore the problem altogether until it "goes away" (e.g., "not my problem..." "when does my shift end...").
Man CANNOT control the weather to great effect.
I like the semantic implications of that piece...; )
Can’t be liberal and “Mentally Strong”.
They don’t write or pimp blogs.
But that’s the line between wasting time and using time. If you’re stuck in a traffic jam now there’s nothing you can do about it, getting uptight won’t fix it; but you can control the next trip to avoid that congested area in the future, which you might not think to do if you’re too busing getting angry in the jam. It’s not about being passive, it’s about focusing energy where it matters, once you’re in a situation you can’t control ride it out and learn the lessons for when you resume control.
Well, I’m a little over half... better get mentally stronger...
Good job with your reply.
As I went through the list, I came up with a similar line. Those who don’t do these positive actions/thoughts are probably liberals or mental ill.
The fact that I’m still alive says more about my mental strength than 13 of anything else.
Thanks for the post.
I was unjustly fired last week and have been sitting here feeling sorry for myself and very angry.
Not saying it will continue but something to think about.
