The health director who approved the release of President Obama’s birth certificate has died in a plane crash, Hawaiian officials said Thursday.

Loretta Fuddy died after the Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft she was travelling on went down shortly after leaving Kalaupapa Airport at around 3:15 p.m. local time (10:15 a.m. ET) on Wednesday.

The other eight people on board were rescued, Richard Schuman, president of Makani Kai Air, told NBC News early Thursday, adding that that there was no indication as to why the plane had crashed.

Fuddy hit the headlines two years ago when she approved a waiver request allowing Obama to access certified copies of his birth certificate, signed by the delivery doctor, Obama’s mother and the local registrar. His mother, then 18, signed her name (Stanley) Ann Dunham Obama.

My laptop won’t let me connect to our wireless network so I can’t see that. How many of the 9 people aboard were actually part of the aircrew?

Just think that if she survived and made it to the beach she could have been ‘accidentally’ run over by an ambulance...

Wonder if the general public will ever get to see the report of the autopsy on the deceased, and if so, whether it will be credible or not. (This was problematic in Vince Foster and Ron Brown cases, as well as some of the “Arkancides.”)

OK. Now I get it. Spoof.

This story hits me between the eyeballs because I’ve been worried about the safety of 3 people in particular in Hawaii. They need to get out of there.

Thanks for the link to the Hawaii TV station coverage. Judging by the tributes that were paid the deceased Fuddy by Hawaii Democrat bigwigs, led by Gov. Abercrombie, Fuddy was a VIP in their universe.

Apparently she was visiting the island from which the plane involved in the crash took off as part of her state statutory duties as "mayor" of a leprosy colony there.

President of the company says there’s no way to know if anybody tried using their cellphone.

Uh, the pilot would use his radios to announce an emergency and call for help.

Engine failed in Hawaii plane crash that killed top health official

Published December 12, 2013
Associated Press

HONOLULU – Engine failure caused the crash of a plane in the ocean off Hawaii that killed the director of the state health department, the owner of the airline said Thursday. Eight other people onboard, including the pilot, survived.

Owner Richard Schuman of Makani Kai Air said the pilot did his best to get the single-engine plane down safely and keep the passengers together in the waters off Molokai.

Asked how they survived, he responded: “Will.”

“The location of the wreckage combined with wind and wave conditions likely means it won’t be recoverable, NTSB spokesman Eric Weiss added.”

The pilot never did that though. According to the president of the company, a DIFFERENT plane that was circling the area at the time reported the crash to the airport tower when the wreckage and survivors with life jackets were visible in the water. The president says that is how anybody knew anything about the crash. The pilot didn’t call anybody.

Any ideas why that would be so?

That’s convenient that they won’t be able to recover the wreckage.

I want to know the cause of death of Mrs. Fuddy, as soon as possible.

Engine failure that can’t be verified because the federal NTSB isn’t going to get the wreckage. Would the radio stop working if the engine failed? What safeguards are there in case an engine fails?

That article says that the deputy director held Fuddy’s hand while she was in the water, they were both in their life preservers, and at some point Fuddy let go.

Sounds an awful lot to me like her seat belt “jammed”. Something was holding her down, and whatever it was didn’t stop Yamamoto from getting out safely from the same area.
