I ran into this in an article on a site from which we Freepers aren't allowed to excerpt articles. I thought it might be a useful tool to some who've given up trying to delete their accounts in places they no longer wish to be.

Ya know, if I wanted to take over an account from someone via deceit, I’d offer to delete it for them. After all, they assume it is deleted and never check there again. I change some values, re-route notices to my email, etc. Just sayin ...

I used to have students search for their name in quotation marks (Exact phrase) to see how many times they could find themselves on the internet. Many were amazed so much of the information on sites like these was actually nearly public information.

The real surprise came when I had parents Google their children’s name

It is a good idea to delete any thing you can from any site you don’t plan to visit any longer

The problem is finding all those old accounts you don’t use anymore (and therefore may not remember). Those are the ones I’d prefer to be able to “delete”.

Funny how there’s a “try our new Chrome extension” on top when google is in direct cahoots with the NSA. From the guys who gave you “Do Not Track Me” (for cookies), DeleteMe https://www.abine.com/deleteme/landing.php seems to be better as I know some guys who used it.

Add-ons that help browsers block Web trackers

https://windowssecrets.com/newsletter/add-ons-that-help-browsers-block-web-trackers

That article discusses DoNotTrackMe, Ghostery, and Disconnect.

I use all 3 with Firefox. They each have advantages over the other two. Some may miss items the others find. Of course, none are 100%.

"Delete yourself from the internet"? Best of freakin' luck with that assignment, Bucko.

You'll have better luck learning to fly by flapping your arms and jumping off a cliff.

The only way I know of to truly get yourself off the internet is to disappear one day and tell NO ONE, take a new name (don't change it legally), lose all your contacts, family, friends, history, bank accounts, material assets.... start over from scratch....

And then stay the hell off the internet!!! Otherwise you're gonna start it all over again by looking your old self up, and inadvertently creating a link to your new self. Dumb, dumb, dumb, ...
