Sam Adams "Independence" Beer Commercial
Self ^ | 7/1/2013 | Obadiah

Posted on 07/01/2013 10:14:49 AM PDT by Obadiah

This weekend I saw a commercial for Sam Adams beer that upset me. The commercial is called "Independence". It featers a guy ostensibly quoting the Declaration of Independence, except he deliberately omits a key phrase (just like Obama). Have you seen this commercial? Did you catch what was deliberately omitted?

TOPICS:
KEYWORDS: beer; independence; independenceday; samadams; samadamsbeer

“Um, I don’t really think anyone watching a beer commercial is really thinking about Who bestowed our natural rights on us. Who bestowed their Natural Lights? Well that’s a much more interesting question to a beer drinker.”

If this were 1 isolated case your point might be valid. But this is the mantra of the left from the “muslim in chief” on down.

It is a pivotal point in history where our Founders tried to make government and even liberals understand that government is NOT the source of our rights. It is as an important element as any other part of the Constitution.

Rights come from our Creator, and anyone would be free to define Creator in their own terms but is sure as hell is not government. Taking that word out is essential for the Progressive/communist/socialist infesting our country as then the Constitution can be INTERPRETED by the miscreants on the USiC in one of their brilliant 5-4 political hack decisions.

Because people don’t care or don’t pay attention, this most critical element of our foundation no longer exists.

Even here on the FR you will see people write “well I read the constitution and there is nothing written about xyz... Well of course you morons, the Constitution defines and limits GOVERNMENT and only bestows a very few rights the founders felt the people should render to the government.

Thank you public schools for destroying a simple yet utterly brilliant concept which was the cornerstone of our foundation.

We are now living in the former soviet union mindset where our rights only come from government.

This is not about a beer commercial but about something which if not reversed should be a revolutionary call to action.

Railing against a beer commercial’s misquote of the DoI cheapens the argument from where I sit. Our elected, uh, leaders would be a better place to start. JMO.

The Reply to my complaint:

Dear Patrick,

Thank you for getting in touch with us and sharing your concerns about our Independence Day commercial. All advertising, especially beer advertising, follows certain guidelines – from the TV networks, the Beer Institute (a beer industry trade organization), and our own internal guidelines. The Beer Institute Advertising Code says, “Beer advertising and marketing materials should not include religion or religious themes.”

We agree with that and try to adhere to these guidelines. While we understand your objection to the omission of the phrase “by our creator” in other circumstances (after all, they occur in the Declaration of independence which Samuel Adams signed and helped author) we believe it would be outside our industry guidelines to invoke those religious words in a beer commercial.

We do appreciate your writing to us to express your concerns and for giving us a chance to address them. We hope that you will write to us again in the future with either positive or negative feedback. We truly do rely on consumers to be the judges of our work. Sincerely Todd Bellomy Consumer Relations

I am not going to post my reply because it falls under the category of "railing" and it's also not really appropriate for my fellow freepers.

I see Todd failed to capitalize ‘Creator’ in his reply...I think we see where Todd is coming from...like I said earlier; Todd is full of sh*t. Carney-level spin...

So let me get this straight. The Declaration of Independence does not meet the guidelines of the beer institute.

I got the exact same reply from them - word for word. My reply back had Barbara Streisand’s initials in it! Told them if they were going to quote our founding documents then quote them as written, otherwise don’t bother! I hope they are getting hammered!

THIS IS THE EMAIL LETTER I SENT THEM:

I’ve read the response that you’ve given to various people writing you regarding your recent Independence Day Ad that changes:

“...they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.”

to

“...they are endowed with certain unalienable Rights.”

You can add me to the long list of people who will never buy your beer, or drink it if served to me.

Brewing the American Dream? What a joke.

Thereby showing that "industry guidelines" are more important that Faith or Country, or Samuel Adams beliefs. His name we use to sell beer, but what he believed in or stood for in his life isn't relevant to us. We only use his name because we know people of faith and country will buy our beer thinking we love America.

We don't.

We hope that you will write to us again in the future with either positive or negative feedback.

We would like to know when the gig is up, so we can borrow someone else's legacy in time to avoid a lag in sales.

The really sad part?

If they had mentioned The Creator is a beer commercial, some of theses same people would boycott because of that!

Overall, they might even get more flack and lose even more business from the perpetually annoyed class than they did this way.

Try Yingling, my beer of choice - Made in PA...

...I’m sure you’re referring to Yuengling, from Pottsville, Pa, my wife’s home town...small town brewery, gives a great tour, though it used to be better when old man Yeungling ran it, and after the tour filled and refilled glasses till the tourists couldn’t drink any more...I left the tour, many glasses later, at 3PM on a hot summer day, out of the cool, lovely tavern into blazing sunshine...ouch...

...love their premium brew and their amber lager, I’ve tasted nothing better...their black and tan, a mix of porter and premium, will put hair on your chest for sure...
