Dear Patrick,
Thank you for getting in touch with us and sharing your concerns about our Independence Day commercial. All advertising, especially beer advertising, follows certain guidelines from the TV networks, the Beer Institute (a beer industry trade organization), and our own internal guidelines. The Beer Institute Advertising Code says, Beer advertising and marketing materials should not include religion or religious themes.
We agree with that and try to adhere to these guidelines. While we understand your objection to the omission of the phrase by our creator in other circumstances (after all, they occur in the Declaration of independence which Samuel Adams signed and helped author) we believe it would be outside our industry guidelines to invoke those religious words in a beer commercial.
We do appreciate your writing to us to express your concerns and for giving us a chance to address them. We hope that you will write to us again in the future with either positive or negative feedback. We truly do rely on consumers to be the judges of our work. Sincerely Todd Bellomy Consumer Relations
I am not going to post my reply because it falls under the category of "railing" and it's also not really appropriate for my fellow freepers.
I see Todd failed to capitalize ‘Creator’ in his reply...I think we see where Todd is coming from...like I said earlier; Todd is full of sh*t. Carney-level spin...
So let me get this straight. The Declaration of Independence does not meet the guidelines of the beer institute.
Thanks for pinging me. I concur with prisoner6 response. Just more subterfuge.
Tory cowards!
I got the exact same reply from them - word for word. My reply back had Barbara Streisand’s initials in it! Told them if they were going to quote our founding documents then quote them as written, otherwise don’t bother! I hope they are getting hammered!
unreal......
unreal......
Anyone have their customer service address?
Good for you, if I drank Sam Adams, I would rail too.
Thereby showing that "industry guidelines" are more important that Faith or Country, or Samuel Adams beliefs. His name we use to sell beer, but what he believed in or stood for in his life isn't relevant to us. We only use his name because we know people of faith and country will buy our beer thinking we love America.
We don't.
We hope that you will write to us again in the future with either positive or negative feedback.
We would like to know when the gig is up, so we can borrow someone else's legacy in time to avoid a lag in sales.
