Archeologists revise image of ancient Celts

The Celts were long considered a barbaric and violent society. But new findings from a 2,600-year-old grave in Germany suggest the ancient people were much more sophisticated than previously thought.

The little Bettelbühl stream on the Danube River was completely unknown, except to local residents. But that changed in the summer of 2010 when a spectacular discovery was made just next to the creek.

Not far from the Heuneburg, the site of an early Celtic settlement, researchers stumbled upon the elaborate grave of a Celtic princess. In addition to gold and amber, they found a subterranean burial chamber fitted with massive oak beams. It was an archeological sensation that, after 2,600 years, the chamber was completely intact.

Gold is a dense, soft, malleable, and ductile metal with a bright yellow color and luster that is considered attractive, which is maintained without tarnishing in air or water.
Chemically, gold is a transition metal and a group 11 element. It is one of the least reactive chemical elements, solid under standard conditions. The metal therefore occurs often in free elemental (native) form, as nuggets or grains in rocks, in veins and in alluvial deposits.
Gold resists attacks by individual acids, but it can be dissolved by the aqua regia (nitro-hydrochloric acid), so named because it dissolves gold. Gold also dissolves in alkaline solutions of cyanide, which have been used in mining. It dissolves in mercury, forming amalgam alloys; is insoluble in nitric acid, which dissolves silver and base metals, a property that has long been used to confirm the presence of gold in items, giving rise to the term acid test.

It's pretty and doesn't tarnish AT ALL. I don't wear gold on my old hands any more but I still wear gold earrings and around my neck a gold "Crusader" cross that I got in the Holy Land. I LOVE my cross.

...and his great rival from the People of the Western Lakes, Magicus Johnsonicus. The two did battle in the arena and the crowd howled for blood.

The Celts traveled a lot and they had a number of colonies throughout Europe.

They were the Galatians of St. Paul's Letters.

They also had a colony in N.E. Spain called Galacia and a colony on the Po River called Galatia in Poland.

The Galician (place in Spain, milesian homeland, settled in 700BC period, more or less, by Celts from this area on the Danube) records clearly note that they were not illiterate but that they used Greek for written communication and kept a good supply of Greek-writing slaves on hand.

The English have derided the Galician documents as total baloney ~ but yet, here are the people and there are the documents.

Different Celts ~ These folks are the ancestors of the Milesian people ~ the Celts who invaded Britain and reorganized it into a more orderly and productive society. Scota ~ aka Ireland ~ was the name of their chief Goddess. Later, Scota was transferred to Scotland and they renamed that smaller island after Ir.

All of this is covered in Galician portfolios (copies of which) have material dating back nearly 3,000 years.

Marvelous mercenaries, and would be for another five hundred years or so.

Longer than that. The Gallowglass mercenaries were a mainstay of European armies well into the Renaissance period.

Where dark woods hide secrets
And mountains are fierce and bold
Deep waters hold reflections
Of times lost long ago

I will hear their every story
Take hold of my own dream
Be as strong as the seas are stormy
And proud as an eagle’s scream

Yeah, I wondered about that, too. They could be primitive and still be ferocious warriors who overwhelmed the Romans.
