The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread ... there is no telling where it will go and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
“Learning comes thru failure”. Boy ain’t that Gods truth....and it’s painful too.

Just went out to look at the two huge squash plants. Both of them are homosexuals. Do I sue the company?
Good heavens Marcella, you are a hoot!!! ROTFL!!
I know what you mean. I’m always reminded of “ formula 409”. Isn’t it true that they finally got the right formulation on the 409th attempt? Learning can be hard. And painful.
It is OK if hubby does that.
At least it wasn’t someone your PAID to mow the lawn! LOL.
Hi all. Greetings from the fine state of Tennessee. Weather was more summer like this week. Almost everything is planted. Stuff is growing, even the potato slips a friend gave me last march. I didn’t think they would be viable after sitting in a paper bag in the garage for 3 months. But lo and behold the are growing like crazy. Go figger.
We are supposed to have a dry weekend. Here’s hoping I can get after the weeds and get to mulching everything. I can tell it is going to be a daconil kind of summer with the rain we re getting every three days. Ugh
Love hearing everyone’s gardening stories and suggestions. They are much appreciated-even JRandomFreepers grumblings about roses. :)
If he didn't want any access, he should have left out the trellis. ;)
She did get married, not to me. Thank goodness.
I have a reason to have a love/hate relationship with roses.

Oh. My. Goodness. Do tell! This sounds like a scene from a movie!
I will blame the thought of climbing the rickety trellis on watching movies when I was younger...

“DO NOT plant them in grow bags. Asparagus needs deep roots. Deep, deep roots. They need a dedicated asparagus bed that has been prepared for them. Promise. Cross my heart and die.”
I started not to say I was putting them in bags because I figured I would get shot down for saying it. Hmm, I’ll do it another way, let me check on that. I’m not going to deal with the ground. I’ll do some research - they need depth and room for roots and they want to be alone 365 days a year and they live for years all by themselves - sort of like you and me. If I can’t find another way, then no asparagus.
If I had been the girl on the second story, I would have been very flattered.....wow. Romantic.
“So Marcella are you a plant bigot...”
I am an absolute detester of homosexuals. If people want to call that being a bigot then I’m happy to wear that sign. I quit JC Penney when they embraced homosexuals and I called them to stop sending me their catalog with homosexual couples in it because I didn’t want homosexuals in my house. I always bought curtains and bedspreads and linens/blankets there and stopped when Ellen Degenerate (I mean to spell it that way) started advertising for them.
As a member of the medical community, I know that homosexuality is death.
As I said, I'm sorta glad her dad made me eat turf and hustle off.
I am NOT a romantic.

“Good heavens Marcella, you are a hoot!!! ROTFL!!”
I don’t know if you could stand me for a whole day. The older I get, and I’m really old, the more truthful I am and that causes some people to laugh a lot.
I know what you mean about clay soil. That’s what we had here when we started. Hubby has acheived wonders with his hard work over the last 3 years with his soil amendments.
I just picked the easy way out with raised garden beds and bags of soil, peat, vermiculite, and compost. It was kinda sterile the first year, but additions of compost, leaves, straw, etc. have helped.
It makes a person very sympathetic to the individuals who may be trying to make a living on small family farms.
Old, BTW is a state of mind. You strike me as a smart-arse wench that is way too clever, regardless of your chronological age.

You are welcome. Tomatoes love to make roots at each joint, so just cut off a healthy looking branch, and pull off the lower leaves, leave a few leaves on top and bury the rest of the plant in soil or stick in a jar of water till you get roots, then plant in soil.
You can also use rooting compound to help - follow the directions. Tomatoes root so easily, I have not found it necessary to use rooting powder.
Yes I think summer has just about sprung into being here in our neck of the woods too. Miserable too cool spring and we’ll soon be into humid hot hot weather.
I’ll have get out some shade cloth no doubt.

LOL. I have heard that it takes one to know one. Of course, there is also the old standby: Pot meet Kettle.
You will see the same pattern with the melon flowers males first and female later.
