George Washingtons rye whiskey going on sale
Rye whiskey using George Washingtons own recipe will soon go on sale at the first presidents Mount Vernon estate in Virginia.
The presidential home reconstructed Washingtons distillery and will make more than 1,100 bottles of unaged whiskey available beginning April 4. The bottles sell for $95 each.
Mount Vernon says the rye is the most authentic version of Washingtons whiskey available. Washington was a detailed record keeper, and distillers used the same grain recipe and fermentation process as it was done 250 years ago.
No word on whether itll be available online or only in person at Mt. Vernon.

A couple of the guys on “Moonshiners” were making Rye and claiming to have George Washington’s recipe.

Like Hell I’d pay $95 for an unaged rye whiskey...I can make 100 gallons for less.
Cheers!
Agreed.
$95 for impatient whiskey sounds pretty steep.
Thanks, but I'll be out in the barn with a rusty knife and the vice.
Ain't no way, no how, after drinking what them boys in Tennessee produce, that I'd touch shine, legal or not. Gotta be white oak barrel aged.
I'd rather gouge my eyes out with a hairpin than touch unaged whiskey.

Mount Vernon does not accept grants from federal, state or local governments, and no tax dollars are expended to support its purposes. Primary sources of income are revenue from the retail and dining facilities, ticket sales, and donations from foundations, corporations, and individuals.
Didn't the "Whiskey Rebellion" happen under Washington? Didn't like the competition, it appears.
I seem to recall an early 1970s story about unearthing a cache of Washington's cherry wine during a dig at MV. IIRC, the bottles were expected to sell for $200/ea at the time.
Don’t know if they can call it his recipe - unless they can get the exact yeast he used!
Oh, the liquor was spilled on the barroom floor
And the bar was closed for the night
When out of the hole came a little brown mouse
And sat in the pale moon light
He lapped up the liquor on the barroom floor
And back on his haunches he sat
And all night long you could hear him roar
Bring on the god damned cat!
Very cool indeed.

I used to have election parties where I would make a Benjamin Franklin recipe of Rum, oranges, and sugar, and let it age in an old gallon jug Whiskey I had from the 1800s, it was very good and very sneaky, people would swig it in long tasty swallows not knowing what was coming.
Guys could buy a bottle of this for an election party and split the cost per glass.
Very nice and I do like my rye
