An 18-year-old Florida woman was only slightly injured this week when she was shot by her friends oven, police said.
Aalaya Walker was visiting a friend in St. Petersburg Monday when they decided they wanted some late-night waffles, The Tampa Bay Times reported. So Walker began preheating the ovenunaware that her friend, JJ Sandy, 25, was storing a magazine from his .45-caliber Glock 21 in the oven.
The magazine exploded about 9 p.m. ET, spraying casing fragments at high speed and striking Walker. She managed to pick some of the fragments out of her leg and chest and then took a bus to the hospital, where she was treated and released.

Who stores ammo in their oven? What does this idiot have stored under the logs in his fireplace?

Now comes the uncomfortabel questions for JJ:
Why would you keep* your magazine in the oven?
(*LEO will mostly likely use the word “hide” here but JJ is gonna squirm, me thinks.)

A dozen packages of Orville Redenbacher's Buttered Movie Popcorn. The idiot won't even have to have the TV on to enjoy a prolonged gunfight at the OK Corral.

Actually, heating up your ammunition is a humanitarian idea. I knew a Sergeant Major who used nothing but tracers in his rifle. He said he did that because he had a big heart and wanted to cauterize the enemy’s wounds. One of the nicest men I ever met.

Those danged women! Don’t they know ovens are for hiding your stash from the government not for actually cooking things?

I’m more concerned that we’ve got ovens shooting people, apparently.

Didn’t the old (pre-electric) waffle irons have to be heated in the oven or on a stovetop?

An exploding round isn't particularly dangerous, at worse it will spray some casing fragments around. Dangers of exploding ammunition tend to be exaggerated. There are plenty of documented experiments involving cooking-off ammo is various situautions, including ovens.
A loaded gun stored in a oven is a different matter. If the round in the chamber goes off, it will likely send the bullet through the oven wall, and could hurt someone outside the oven.
