One of the more fascinating aspects of writing about Sarah Palin is how other people react so irrationally to her. Julianne Moore, an actress who is purported to play her in an upcoming HBO film "Game Change," does not like her one bit.
Big Hollywood has reported how the actress has trashed the politician she plays, claiming she was "unqualified" to be vice president.
Now a new narrative is arising about the former Alaska governor that is more suggestive of Machiavelli than of a bimbo.
The U.K. Daily Mail suggests, ever so gently, that Palin might be maneuvering to have herself nominated at a brokered Republican convention in August, thus avoiding the messy primary process that has not been edifying for any of the candidates involved.
The Week echoes that view and suggests, by quoting Jim Newell of Wonkette, that a brokered convention has been Palin's plan all along. How else to explain her wish that the primary process continue, by slyly hinting support for Newt Gingrich. The theory is this is less a play to help Gingrich than it is a way to stop Mitt Romney from clinching the nomination.
The scenario works like this: None of the candidates comes to the convention with sufficient delegates to clinch the nomination. The convention becomes deadlocked with ballot after ballot failing to pick a nominee. Then Palin and her activist army goes to work, cutting deals in the great tradition of "The Best Man" and becoming the compromise candidate.
One of the candidates who actually ran -- probably Gingrich -- is given the vice presidential nod....

Yeah, but it won’t happen. It’s not her style.
Sun Tzu.
1. Obama - wise, skillful, thoughtful, adroit, intelligent.
2. Hillary - tough fighter, lost out to Obama because she was outmaneuvered.
3. McCain - affable bumbling lovable oaf.
4. Palin - shrieking screaming PMS mental case she demon from hell.
Yeah, but it won’t happen. It’s not her style.
Machiavelli was a Florentine patriot and a believer in republican government, by the way. As a role model you could do a lot worse.
Sarah Palin represents, in her personality and demeanor, everything good, true, and noble in the traditional American character.
It’s no surprise, then, that all those who hate America, and what the nation traditionally represents, despise her.
Slowly, but inexorably, the nation is dividing into two camps - those who love the United States and what she has represented to the world, and those who hate America for resisting the flight to One World, socialist dogma.
I think what you seem to being doing, is referred to as “FUD”.
A form of propaganda.
This is ridiculous. A brokered convention will be run by the same people that have pushed McRomDole for the last year. If anybody thinks they will push anybody other than son of McRomDole they are smoking crack.
Really? Care to elaborate?
Really? Care to elaborate?
The Daily Mail is a half-assed rag. Some of their “big stories” are so full of internal contradictions and poor to nonexistent editing that you’re far more confused after reading it than before.
They are projecting their fears. Isn't 'Wonkette' the publication that has been trashing Sarah Palin from the beginning?
Kind of like the football coach who plans on the other team fumbling the ball. These analysts are such loons.....But let us say for a moment that they are correct and that she is that clever and scheming. Then that is EXACTLY who I want to be President because at least she will outsmart all the politicians in DC and the rest of the world.
Booyah
You seem to be saying Palin’s not a person we should be looking at?
I’ve now done a 180, and have decided I’m supporting (both) Gingrich and Santorum, so that we can force a brokered convention, and then the real fight begins to get Palin as our nominee.
You seem to be trying to downplay Palin’s likelihood?
No? If so, sorry.
We don't know what went on with her and Him. We are mere mortals.
We have absolutely NO idea what He has in store for us. It could be our total destruction or salvation.
Time will tell.
I like Palin, but is there even a “likelihood” to be downplayed? The phrase “snowball’s chance in hell” comes to mind.
The funds raised in these FReepathons go to pay our current quarter expenses. But we're also going to try to replace some of our older servers and failing equipment this year so we're going to add a little extra to our FReepathon goals. John is estimating ten to fifteen thousand to do this and I'd like to get it all in place and working before the election cycle is fully heated up, so we'll try to bring in a little extra now, if we can, and the rest next quarter.
