A Prussian cavalryman, in the army of Frederick the Great was caught having sex with his horse. Seydlitz, Frederick’s legendary cavalry commander, had him courtmartialled. The sentence was death. Seydlitz endorsed the sentence, and per the Prussian military code, sent it to Frederick for review.
Frederick commuted the sentence, writing in the margin, “Transfer him to the infantry. That will be punishment enough.”. True story.
