In February of this year my older brother went to the hospital due to severe pain and swelling in one leg. Those doctors could not figure out what was causing the pain and swelling, so they sent him home to see his own doctor. His doctor could not figure out the problem either; mean while his other leg started hurting. He was sent to Houston for yet another set of test; still no results. His doctor and the doctors in Houston tried different treatments (medicine) to treat his pain. By this time he has used up his vacation, sick leave and disability time at work so they fired him. Last month he went to another set of doctors, this time in Temple, TX for more test. They determined he had anmemia and hyper or hyposomething (I cant remember) and asked him to come back this week for results of test and some more testing.
I received a phone call from my sister-in-law yesterday telling me the doctors determined my brother might have Myelofibrosis ~ which if not treated could lead to Leukemia. The ran different blood test and today did a bone marrow biopsy. Those test came back that he has Leukemia. Tomorrow the bone marrow results will determine if the type of Leukemia he has is aggressive or non-aggressive. If non-aggressive, he will receive a week of chemo and have to stay in the hospital for at least one month. My sister-in-law said she went blank before she could hear about what will happen if the Leukemia is aggressive.
Please pray that the Leukemia is non-aggressive and that my brother can be healed with as little as pain as possible.
Prayers up.
(((Sending Prayers)))
Thank God that you are in remission. I’ll add you in my prayers that you stay that way until you are at a ripe old age.
Donna, I am so sorry to hear this.
I will pray long and hard for you brother.
I know how close I am to mine, and I would be devastated to lose him.
Keep your chin up, hang in there..
It might be a rough ride but we are here for you, and so is our beloved Jesus.
Love and prayers to you.

Thank you darling!
My brother & I were very close when we were kids, but both lost our way for awhile in early to mid adulthood. In the past 10 years we have become close again and now the thought of maybe losing him is hurting my heart.
Prayers up for your dear brother, and for you.
Your post should makes us all a little more appreciative of God’s graces for us.
My very best wishes to you for a great Christmas.
Our prayers for you as well.
Terrible news. Will pray for him.
Please remember that we live in a wonderful age of advanced Medicine and never give up hope. I have been fighting Chronic Lyphocytic Leukemia for the past six years, having been in and out of Remission during that time.
My Father, thirty years my senior, was diagnosed with Stage Four Lymphoma one month after my diagnosis. He went through one round of Chemotherapy and now at age 88 has been symptom free for nearly six years. Miracles do happen...
Both my Father and I use the same Oncologist who also happens to be Cancer survivor. We have been blessed to have him and his wonderful staff looking after us. I hope your Brother finds the same caring Medical Professionals in his locale.
The most important thing is to make sure that all your questions are answered. Various treatment options, possible co-pays that might come up during treatment regimens, pain management, Hospital treatment versus Doctor Office treatment facilities and even using holistic medications such as B-12, Green Tea, Folic Acid etc.
The treatment options for Lymphoma / Leukemia have been improving year to year. Drug regimens have advanced with “cocktail” treatments that were not available as little as ten years ago, not only utilizing new drugs but combining them with older drugs with good track records. I have been very fortunate in benefiting from these new therapies, as I'm sure your Brother will.
My best to your Brother from a fellow traveler. He is not alone as long as he has a supportive Family and others that he may never meet praying for him. Count me in along with many other FReepers posting on this thread. God Bless...
heh. a grunch? ;=P
