Anyone seen "Hugo"?
me

Posted on 11/28/2011 7:08:52 PM PST by nuconvert

Just wondered if anyone had seen Scorsese's new 3D movie, "Hugo".

I saw it this weekend and enjoyed it and wondered what others thought?

(you might want to avoid reading this thread if you haven't seen it yet)

I waved hello to him earlier today. Nicest super in the complex, and he looks like Geronimo to boot.

I knew very little about it, and that’s why I wanted to go see it - wanted to be surprised, and I was. I had no idea about the Georges Méliès plot, and wonder now if it’s going to be lost on the majority of the audience, certainly children. I wonder if that might make it less enjoyable, or make people less appreciative?

I did and I recommend it. The acting was wonderful, directing & cinematography GREAT. I will probably see it again.

I’d stand in line for that one but most likely I’d order it through Amazon.com

I’m waiting for the director’s cut DVD. I’m just not sure about a Scorcese movie with no F-bombs, seems unnatural.

And I think Hugo has already been watched by more people than all of those.

Hugo is a wonderful motion picture and should get some Oscar nominations. I would be surprised if it didn’t get any.

Scorsese did a terrific job.

Great for children and cinephiles.

Well, it was made with a larger audience in mind.

Given the budget and revenue of those 3 I don’t think they even found the intended audience. Those are his obscuratta.

LTOC actually made a slight profit. It was made for cheap. The other two however were expensive flops.

My wife saw Hugo and loved it. She went with a friend. In fact, she liked it so much that she is going with a different friend to see it tomorrow. :}

Just saw it, if it doesn’t win Best Picture, it would be a travesty.

I saw it in the non-3D version. It was very lovely. It took time to tell the story, but didn’t seem too slow. I enjoyed the various characters in the train station. I loved seeing the old movies using the correct sprocket speed. It was exciting to see how people employed their creativity in a brand new medium. Though movies now are generally much more “realistic,” there aren’t as many that are as joyously inventive as those in the beginning of film.

The boy, Hugo, though, looked sort of like a creepy cross between Jodie Foster and Elijah Wood.
