The last 9 actually is the safeguard.

How is introducing a whole new field of federal tax a "safeguard" without first abolishing the current oppressive income tax? The only thing that safeguards is potential for more socialism. 10%-15% flat tax across the board - either income tax or sales tax but not both.

As I explained. Right now in the current tax code there IS no safegaurd. You can always hide the tax hike as a “tax on business” or a “Tax on the rich”.

by spreading the tax base to cover EVERYONE with a sales tax everyone pays so everyone knows a tax hike will effect them

You’re projecting, bobk333. TGO has a large national audience. Newt has comported himself superbly in all of the debates. Herman Cain is also moving up in the polls while Romney is falling! I happen to think that Romney supporters are going to Newt.

Many things can change between now and Convention. That said, Cain is the most consistant candidate on the conservative side. I like Newt, but he has too much baggage. A Cain/Gingrich ticket, though might be good. Or a Cain/Palin ticket. ‘Balance’ might suggest a Cain/Perry ticket, but I would likely have a choking fit.

The ‘9’s’ only suggest to me that Cain recognizes a need for major tax overhaul. Given an adequate Congressional majority, I can see some changes in the overall scheme of tax things. As for the 16th, how do you repeal an ‘illegal’ amendment? :)

Well, Perry's proposal doesn't require another constitutional amendment because it's is a simple flat tax on income - the well-conceived product of advise from a primer economic mind, Steve Forbes.

A sales tax would seem to have a lot going for it but of course not without getting rid of the 16th Amendment, which would be a fairly miraculous achievement.

I don’t think Gingrich’s recent rise in the polls is necessarily coming at the expense of Cain and the allegations against him. I think many conservatives, including myself, are liking Gingrich’s fire, his take-no-BS from the media and leftist debate moderators, and his command of the issues he has consistently displayed during the debates. I’m convinced Newt would make Obama look really bad in a head-to-head debate.

Gingrich has also come under fire many times before, including the moment he was sworn in as Speaker of the House in 1995. He knows what to expect and how to handle the pressure. Gingrich is not a perfect candidate, but he has enough of a conservative record that would make him a FAR better and more desirable president than that Marxist a-hole Obama.

My FRiend, as long as leftists are able to gain access to power, even the "safeguard" of the Constitution itself is in jeopardy. If they can dance around the Constitution, you don't think they can weasel around whatever NEW taxes you put in place as well as the old? It's foolishness to think that adding a whole new vista of federal taxes is anything but threatening to our economic freedom.

We should do what we can do which is, sure, abolish the tax code by creating a simple flat income tax across the board (no "political classes" if that's what you're worried about). But don't create a whole new tax landscape until the 16th amendment is repealed.
