Last evening, my dad passed away after fighting the most courageous fight I have ever witnessed, with bravery and dignity-surrounded by his family and in the home he loved. He is "at ease" now.

On Sat, the 10th- we celebrated the Marine Corp birthday by putting up a Marine Corp flag and playing and singing the Marine Corp hymn. He was so weak but was able to take off his Marine Corp cap and put it over his heart--and he mouthed every word to the song.

I cannot tell you how much this thread has meant to him. He read it often and the booklet I made for him from these posts meant so much. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This Thanksgiving I am so thankful for the brave and loving man that is my Dad, the wonderful and loving mom who took such tender care of him and for my sisters and brothers who were with him every step of the way. And I thank God also for you all...you helped to make the burden bearable. Semper Fi Dad--we will ALWAYS be faithful to your memory!

We all have to go sometime and for your father that time was last night. As sad as that may be, I can think of no better way for any Marine to go than surrounded by his loving family.
For a combat vet, it's actually the answer to the prayers he offered up to God back in that hell-hole known as Korea. "You get me out of here and I promise ..." I know, I said the same prayers in VN.
As I sit down to eat dinner today, I'll remember your father and all the brave Marines I served with.
