I have the hardest time anymore enjoying College Football. I'm currently watching the game between Cal and Oregon (Ducks) and I expect the Ducks to win. A friend of mine at work is a Ducks fan so I'm trying to pull for them. But every time their "athletes" make a play they hop around like monkeys beating on their chests. It is absurd.
I cannot believe that this is what College football has come down to.
The college "players" are out of control. They hop around like monkeys when they make a "play". I honestly have to give major credit to coaches like Sabin and Miles who can actually control these players for the most part. The referees deserve credit too as they are out there with these loonies who otherwise be insanely slamming each other around with no regard for any type of rules.
Maybe I should pull for Vanderbilt - but they have a few of them too.
All adults agree with you. I like the ones who will take a knee instead. My husband remains mortified as are you, that such ridiculous behavior meets no consequence but for perhaps the two coaches you mention. Grace and poise are simply not thought a virtue in our nation who favors rather the lowest common denominator in all manner of speech, dress and behaviors.
They may be jumping like monkeys tonight, but when they played LSU, they were crying like little girls.
Floydada?
You could root for the Academies.
LOL!
Back in the day (60’s), I played for a major university as a center. We were cautioned by the coach not to celebrate in any way when we got a TD. First of all, they might be encouraged by our display and come on strong as a result, second, they could come back in the next set of plays and score ... embarrassment would ensue. Of course that was back in the day of civility.
Of course what the fans did ... well that was their business.

Poor Howard. He never was allowed to get past the Monkey comment.
Yes. You’re right. It is just a game after all. One day later it is almost forgotten. These college players are just boys being boys. Who really cares about their touchdown antics?

I’ve learned to like going to the philharmonic.
Seriously.
Its very calming, the people there know how to behave themselves in public, and I’ve grown to appreciate the music and skill of the musicians.
When I watch sports now, what I used to think was normal, I now find appalling.
>>”D” is for DEFENSE ...not DANCING!<<
Excellent post.
May I supplement with Tom Landry’s “For God’s sake, if you make it into the end zone, act like you have been there before.”
What a class act he was.
I find myself now getting more into Rugby since I’ve been following the Rugby World Cup, and I’ve wondered, what if Rugby took the place of football all of those years ago. I find myself preferring the continuous action of Rugby, over the constant starts and stops of football.
And also, I wonder, with all of the liability issues potentially coming up with football with regards to concussions, and general poor health of former players, if a sport like Rugby could one day emerge as an alternative.
Ditto to what you said...the only time I slipped up and did any type of celebration was on my first intercept, in an NFL preseason game, as a 3rd string rookie f.a. LB, and I refused to give the ball back to the ref...after 3 tons of humanity had just landed on me. I swear people were coming out of the stands just to pile on. Nowadays, they act like the simple act of tackling a running back in the 1st quarter had just won the game.
