(boy-oh-boy am I gonna get slammed for this)

The college "players" are out of control. They hop around like monkeys when they make a "play". I honestly have to give major credit to coaches like Sabin and Miles who can actually control these players for the most part. The referees deserve credit too as they are out there with these loonies who otherwise be insanely slamming each other around with no regard for any type of rules.

Maybe I should pull for Vanderbilt - but they have a few of them too.

All adults agree with you. I like the ones who will take a knee instead. My husband remains mortified as are you, that such ridiculous behavior meets no consequence but for perhaps the two coaches you mention. Grace and poise are simply not thought a virtue in our nation who favors rather the lowest common denominator in all manner of speech, dress and behaviors.

My football coach in a little small town outside of Lubbock would make us run laps with a tire on a sand covered track for “showmanship”. He made us walk a straight line with our hand extended to the other team before and after the game.Win or lose we were only allowed to say, “great game, thank you for the contest, best of luck in your next match-up”

They may be jumping like monkeys tonight, but when they played LSU, they were crying like little girls.

But every time their "athletes" make a play they hop around like monkeys beating on their chests. It is absurd.

Young guys excited and happy when they make a big play - I don't see the problem. It's football and it doesn't need some British cricket-type atmosphere, with players taking breaks for tea and a long nap.

Back in the day (60’s), I played for a major university as a center. We were cautioned by the coach not to celebrate in any way when we got a TD. First of all, they might be encouraged by our display and come on strong as a result, second, they could come back in the next set of plays and score ... embarrassment would ensue. Of course that was back in the day of civility.

Of course what the fans did ... well that was their business.

For some reason this thread reminds me of Howard Cosell.

My household gave up football, basketball, and baseball when I realized most the players were Obama supporters. I'm through with helping support idiots and their bad behavior. About all that's left me now is competitive ballroom dancing.

I’ve learned to like going to the philharmonic.

Seriously.

Its very calming, the people there know how to behave themselves in public, and I’ve grown to appreciate the music and skill of the musicians.

When I watch sports now, what I used to think was normal, I now find appalling.

“I cannot believe that this is what College football has come down to.”

Well, this is what happens when colleges award scholorships to people from the feral inner-city population. Don’t misunderstand me, because I love college football. But at some point you just need to understand that college sports are a mega-billion dollar business. The only difference between the NCAA and NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB is that the pro athletes are paid millions of $$$$ while college players receive thousands of $$$$ (scholorships - tuition, room and board, books, and small montyly stipend).

But when these spoiled college athletes “graduate” and can’t read, write or get a job, they wail and moan about how they were taken advantage of by “the man”.

My suggestion: Just watch the games and enjoy it, just like you would a professional game. The only difference is who is making the money.

One thing you will not see at Bama is the players jumping around like they won the NC after making a simple good play. How the players act is a reflection of the coaches and all depends on the coach. Paterno, Saban, Miles and other good coaches do not put up with the showboating. However, Les Miles is certainly a riverboat gambler but that’s another story.

I know what you mean. I don't waste a lot of time watching sports, but last year I was at a friend's house during an NFL playoff game and then again during the Super Bowl. I guess I'm out of touch because I was amazed at all the celebration on the most trivial plays.

It's interesting that in baseball, this sort of thing remains verboten, and is self-enforced by the players. Try showing up the other team, and eat a fastball, or get your head pounded.
