Whats Americas favorite condiment? Hint: its not ketchup.
The answer is mayonnaise: specifically Hellmanns, which the nation apparently slops on everything except french fries.
Hellmanns alone accounted for $401.2 million in sales last year, according to Businessweek -- nearly a third of the total $1.3 billion mayo market here.
Heinz Ketchup is a distant third with $278.6 million in sales, edged out by the $286.2 million worth of Tostitos salsa sold last year.

Hellman’s doesn’t exist west of the Rockies. Yes, some people do put mayonnaise on their chips. Yes there are better mayonnaise out there. Duke’s Double Yolk mayo comes to mind. Good if you don’t want to live past 40. And to me, Kraft’s Mayonnaise with Olive oil with your own added dry mustard is the best ‘light’ mayonnaise out there.

One of the best days of my life, after moving from California to the East Coast, was hearing the Hellman’s commercial and recognizing the Best Foods Mayonnaise jingle.

Hellmans doesnt exist west of the Rockies. As mentioned upthread, it is called Best Foods mayo in the west, and it is exactly the same as Hellman's. The label is the same, except it says Best Foods instead of Hellman's.

Miracle Whip is nasty. Sugar doesn’t belong in mayonnaise.

I read just last year that salsa was the top condiment. What happened? Did they decide to start enforcing the immigration laws?

It’s an excellent product. Although the foodies always recommend making your own mayonaisse (yeah, right, I really want my right arm to drop off!), in a pinch, they always suggest Hellmann’s.

Will Duke’s representative be weighing in on this subject?
