We are encouraged to report suspicious activity. I did that this morning and wonder if others have had occasion to do so.
I came up behind a Penske box truck with no license plate. I called 911.
Is that suspicious enough or did I over react?
There certainly seems to be a lot of suspicious activity in the DOJ.
If so report it immediately!
I think that’s suspicious enough. In any case, if it just fell off, both the driver and the company need to know about it.

Now that it has happened, you can reassess. Since there was a specific alert regarding these trucks, if any cop tells you that you did wrong then they are out to lunch.
No license plate? You did the right thing. It doesn’t hurt for the police to check it out. If it amounts to nothing, wonderful. If it does amount to something, wonderful - er that you noticed and reported it.
Where do I report suspicious activity going on at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave Washington DC. Would the Justice Dept look into that?

Thinking you did good. Will tell a story which is the truth. Saw something similar about six plus months ago while out running errands. Reported it. Police scrambled. Found out I was tailed by at least four police cars. I was not the one in the box truck.
About a year ago, I was walking in my own neighborhood, minding my own business, when a cruiser rolled up, with lights flashing and demanded I D from me.
When I asked what it was about, he said that a man fitting my description had been reported as “looking into parked cars”. Which was a lie - and looking into parked cars is not a crime (is it?), though it might be suspicious.
Suspicious activity only applies to all-white men.

The police have other contact numbers besides 911. This doesn’t sound like something that rises to the level of ‘emergency’, which is what 911 is for.
The word intent comes to mind. Another story from long, long ago (forty years ago nearly). Was out of town (working) FBI comes to where was working and throws me up against the wall. Lady comes in and identifies me as the wrong person. Found out was followed that time for three plus days. Now-a-days why and what get answered quickly. Have some other stories regarding official business conducted against innocent citizens. Cannot discus, yet found the latest situation odd (approximately six plus months ago), especially in light of other events of that day. Not free to discuss fully, at the present, involving known criminal activity of which I and spouse were the victims of burglary. Filled no insurance, we took the loss.

We should all be reporting one another. Otherwise the federal government’s open-border and terrorist-importing efforts will have been for naught.

You may be right - but the extra ten minutes it would have taken to pull over, look up the number, make the call, and make the report, (after negotiating the 6 choices on the police number recording), gets the truck at least ten miles farther down the road and to an interstate junction.
The timliness of getting it checked out did have aspects of emergency, imo.
Okay everyone, will be quiet now. Though sometimes I wonder who is on what side, and then answers come in the form of clues. Just saying ... Stay Safe everyone.
Better safe than sorry. You made the right call. BTW, don’t worry about using 911. How the hell are you going to call a non-emergency number you don’t know on a cell phone while driving? If 911 doesn’t like it, then THEY can switch you to the non-emergency number, and if they start bitching about it, I point out that they’re the ones wasting precious 911 dispatcher time rather than just switching me to a non-emergency number.
BTW, I NEVER give my name when calling in something as a citizen. If they bitch about it, I just remind the dispatcher the call is on tape, I’ve done my duty as a citizen, and if they choose to ignore it, the whole conversation is on the dispatch tape and should something bad happen as a consequence of them ignoring the call and if I find out about it, I’ll be sure to report THAT too, and suggest the dispatch tapes be reviewed.
That statement brought a small chuckle from me. Just yesterday evening I recieved a call from my real estate lady that is handling the sale of my former home in my hometown. She advised me that the house had been broken into and vandalized. I went to the homepage of my hometown police dept to get the non-emergency number to make a report. Nowhere on their webpage was the number. I had to go to the city website to get the police number. Go figure..
