About a year ago, I was walking in my own neighborhood, minding my own business, when a cruiser rolled up, with lights flashing and demanded I D from me.

When I asked what it was about, he said that a man fitting my description had been reported as “looking into parked cars”. Which was a lie - and looking into parked cars is not a crime (is it?), though it might be suspicious.

The word intent comes to mind. Another story from long, long ago (forty years ago nearly). Was out of town (working) FBI comes to where was working and throws me up against the wall. Lady comes in and identifies me as the wrong person. Found out was followed that time for three plus days. Now-a-days why and what get answered quickly. Have some other stories regarding official business conducted against innocent citizens. Cannot discus, yet found the latest situation odd (approximately six plus months ago), especially in light of other events of that day. Not free to discuss fully, at the present, involving known criminal activity of which I and spouse were the victims of burglary. Filled no insurance, we took the loss.

One further bit of info. I have posted only two or three thread beginnings. I visit this site only to post (these are facts). One was a vanity. After the vanity an innocent person was release from jail. I had the privilege to meet this individual after the release. Discussion between this individual and myself is confidential, though let it be known there was a black SUV on the street when we met. Our conversation was probably recorded, and I have no problem with that.

Okay everyone, will be quiet now. Though sometimes I wonder who is on what side, and then answers come in the form of clues. Just saying ... Stay Safe everyone.

If our cops were all geniuses, they couldn’t do their job of protecting and serving without multiple accidental discharges. Sometimes they give dumb explanations to cover their suspicions - legitimate and illegitimate. It could just as easily been you didn’t look like you “fit” there - like happens/happened to blacks in white neighborhoods (I only know when it makes the news). Maybe the same happened to you.

We need them to use both their training AND their experience and follow the law in protecting and serving - and abuses will happen with everything human powered.

I’m sure the truck renter was freaked, no way around that - hopefully the officer took reasonable safety/professionalism in the stop and investigation, as employed to.

I imagine on an occasion of heightened suspicion, throwing the flashers gets a bad guy to run or accelerate. If the guy doesn’t, the suspicious officer now has to justify the lights and ask for ID - legally warranted now or not. Hence a dumb pat excuse. Hopefully it’s rarer, like all innocently arrested. If only we were all perfect in our professions, surgeons and cops and generals/2nd lieutenants especially.
