Archaeologists have unearthed the remains of the Philistines in Israel. They are providing scholars with new clues to the Bible's bad guys. The digging in the city of Gath is helping flesh out the picture of the group.
Since 1996, digging happens each year in Gath, and this year, over 100 scholars gathered to began excavating the remains of the ancient metropolis whose most famous resident was Goliath. This year, the diggers have unearthed ancient jugs that are more than 3,000 years old, and the decorations on them hint at the Greek origins of the Philistines. How amazing that these people were able to keep some of their heritage while adopting the customs of native peoples as well.
Archaeologists uncovered the fact that the Philistines' diet was mostly grass pea lentils, which has Greek origins. However, they also added pigs and dogs to their meals, which is a big departure from their neighboring Israelis.
The reason that the digging at Gath is so important is that it provides scholars with information about the reigns of David and Solomon about which there is little evidence. Seymour Gitin, director of the W.F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research in Jerusalem, said, "Gath fills a very important gap in our understanding of Philistine history."
The things that the archaeologists uncover are incredibly interesting. It is truly amazing to be able to learn so much about ancient peoples simply by digging up what remains of their former cities. In this way, scientists are able to give a surprisingly vibrant picture of how ancient people lived. Also, some of what they discover may go a long way toward supporting or disproving some of the stories about the Philistines in the Bible.

Work is in full swing now and things are actually looking like a real excavation!
We had some very nice finds in various areas.
In Area D, there were several vessels in the 9th cent. destruction level, along with some iron objects and other finds.
Here is a complete jar in situ

If we cut Israel in half for ever people group that ever lived there it would be the size of a postage stamp. As to the Arabs who call themselves Palestinians, they have divided Israel for Peace twice already. Once to make Syria and again to make Jordan.
I have a Middle East Peace deal that will work. Send the Hebrews to Hebron and the Arabs to Arabia. Problem solved. Of course Jordan, Iraq, Afganistan, Pakistan, Iran, Lebanon and Syria would all be empty. The Arabs pretty much killed off the original inhabitants. I think they are so pissed because they were not able to kill off the Jews.

“and this year, over 100 scholars gathered to began excavating the remains of the ancient metropolis whose most famous resident was Goliath. “
David and Goliatah, one of my favorite military stories.
Goliath had a personal weapon, David had a range weapon - and so history was made.

"Unearthing The Bible's Bad Guys" One would have thought the dig would have had to be much deeper assuming the bad guys were long gone to Hell !!
