This is a picture of the Chery QQ. It is made in CHINA. There is one on a USED CAR LOT near my house in Ft. Walton Beach, FL.
Price: $2400.
They have no dealerships or distribution network in the USA. They had proposed to sell these cars here back in 2005. They had deals with Chrysler and later Nissan, but since the 2008 crash and subsequent government takeover of Chrysler, that deal has died. As far as I know, this model has not passed any EPA or NHSTA tests in order to be allowed to be imported. They have had LEGAL problems with GM saying that the car is a rip-off of the of the Daewoo Matiz (which is marketed outside South Korea as the Chevrolet Spark).
My question is: How did this car get here?........
May be a question the jalopnik crowd can answer..... I know they have a link at bottom of lifehacker.com page.
Them folks are vehicular wizards for such as this....:o)
Good question.....president an this little pos aren’t papered.
Damn.....Lol !
.Just a test run...
Next will be a few battalions of the PLA and tanks...(following an unexplained EMP event over North America)
Use your favorite search engine for ‘grey (or ‘gray’ market autos’. It’s a whole other world!
I doubt if it was rafted over from Cuba but you never know...
It would be worth a stop and to ask the dealer how it got to his lot.

You have a conical hat? You must have friends in the Party to rate such a luxury.

You have the right to see the import paperwork from U.S. Customs...the dealer better have it if he is offering it for sale. If you have any questions about the paperwork...verify...well I would verify with Customs anyway.
Does the car on the lot have license plates? My state does check autos and motorcycles for federal compliance before they’ll issue a plate. Wish they’d leave the bikes alone :(
No plates. Florida plates stay with the person, not the car when its traded in.....
It’s a used car, not new.....
I went to the NADA site they don’t have a listing for Chery as a manufacturer. That tells me that NONE of those cars are supposed to be here........
I checked the NADA used car site. They don’t have a listing for Chery as a manufacturer, ergo, this car is illegal.....
Not at all. They could be carried.
If it is foreign made and not part of mass import shipment you have a right to see proof of legal import paperwork. I sure wouldn’t buy it without it. Even if it was used when imported it must have documentation somewhere (in some places DMV will have original docs) if legally imported.
It’s hard to imagine how that could have looked worse than it was.
I checked the NADA and Kelley Blue Book sites. They have no listings for “Chery’ as a manufacturer. That means the car is not allowed in the US..............
Thanks for the link.
I am going to contact the local newspaper snoops and see if they are interested in this story...........
