Vanity on Keeping Christmas out of Christmas
my experience | 12/1/2010 | self

Posted on 12/01/2010 12:35:15 PM PST by Yaelle

Last night I went into Cost Plus for some imported candy treats for the kids. I've also been seeking Chanukah wrapping paper, which is nowhere to be found in stores this year. I noticed that they had a huge section in the middle of the store under the sign "Holiday Wrap." As I perused the many bins, I found that every single roll of wrapping paper had Christmas themes or colors.

What was the original intent of transforming Christmas into the generic "holidays?" Wasn't it to not exclude the other religions who might possibly be celebrating Chanukah, Eid, Kwanzaa, or the Winter Solstice, all of which are equally important in the politically correct society? And yet, among the rolls of paper, there were none for Chanukah, the second most celebrated holiday in December. (I noted there was no wrap decorated with naked women being tortured with electrical cords either, for Kwanzaa.)

My question, which was not understood by either of the store employees as I asked it, remains: If your store has not purchased any wrapping paper for any other holiday, and all of the wrapping paper you have is clearly for Christmas, why can't the signage over the bins say "Christmas Wrap?"

Seen any anti-Christmas idiocy out there?

Why the war against “holy-days” (Holiday)? That term is just as religious. I think there is a lot of over-reacting going on. Yea, there are some actual attacks on Christmas, but those who find every single instance of the term “holiday” as an attack are a little overly obsessed.

There’s no point talking to the employees. Take that time & write a letter. They get enough, they change.

In our old, pretty well blackened city....Kwanzai is celebrated as if it’s right from ancient Africa...

I look for wrapping paper, labels, cards and songs that don’t rely on Santa/Snowmen/Elves. Nothing is being given to kids.

I sometimes can still find paper with choral lyrics or Christmas slogans on them.

Go to Target, they have an entire Chanukah section.

Also, as you probably know this year Chanukah ends next week. Therefor after Wednesday - only Christmas remains as a holiday.

Kwanza is bogus

Yes, people spending billions of dollars on gifts for Holydays they don't celebrate.

FWIW, I bought Chanuka paper today at Target. It was next to Christmas Wrap.

It was labeled “Chanuka Paper,” if the blue Stars of David didn’t give it away.

I’m 52 years old. Been around, ya know.

But I’ve never heard of, or seen, Chanukah wrapping paper.

Is Chanukah a big gift giving time? Just wondering?

Our local Fox station referred to the Christmas Tree bomber originally as the Holiday Tree bomber before they caught on that even the city had given up on the term Holiday Tree a couple of years ago. And I have seen a couple of vertical rows of Chanukah stuff at our local Fred Meyer super store(proudly run into the ground by Kroger's marketing approach).
