I am starting a project and want to know if someone would like to help me do it. Once started we can develop a reset button for this economic structure.

As with many things, I think a compromise will suit you best.

You’ll likely be fine putting your laptop to sleep most of the times you step away from it during the day, and then shutting it down completely when you head off to bed.

That should ensure you wait the least amount of time for your desktop to appear whenever you return to your machine throughout the day, while also giving the O/S a fresh start often enough that it doesn’t give you trouble.

I kinda figured the debating ran in the family!

That’s good though. Think of the politicians you can influence with a good home-cooked meal... ;o]

"Why is it our social proclivity to write you off as a nutcase, rather than extend you the grace of credibility, at least until 3:48am April 9th, 2011?"

The only reliable fact about predictions of Doomsday is that it keeps getting postponed.

Your tribe, too?

I’m tellin’ ya, my crew can argue about ANYTHING. I dread pointing things out to them, sometimes, because I KNOW they’ll key off of some niggling trifle and escalate it into an argument to shame the Apocalypse for scale.

Not a casual, even-toned discussion as we have here, where people each chip in with their observations and perspectives and mutually evaluate and comment upon those of the others present. Nor even a debate. No, I’m talking full-on, hammer-and-tongs, he-said/she-said, yes you did, no I didn’t, did too, did not, did, didn’t, did, DIDN’T, INFINITY! Argument.

We’re all a bunch of pretty savvy folks with respect for each other.

That, I think, is what keeps us civil with each other. I LIKE it!!

Hmmm... 12000 furlongs on a side, the wall 144 cubits as of the measure of the angel. Yikes!

"We'd need a few more shuttles, but I think we could expand the Castle to match that... "

For any household expansion needs we have, we can always stop at Ceres.

"Angels are that big??? WHOA!"

Difficult concept to wrestle with, isn't it?

There’s an actual calculation on the maximum number of angels that can dance on the head of a pin. But that’s only a maximum, not a minimum.

It’s easier for me to grasp the concept that angels are man-sized and man-shaped. Nothing else makes sense, and God, if I read my Scriptures correctly, is a logical Being.

I lean toward the logical, anyway.

Yeah. And, also, there’s that whole aspect of taking an interest in a discussion for the sake of seeing where it goes. Like eating at a smorgasbord, there’s something for everyone, even though there’s plenty you won’t eat yourself.

I enjoy the exercise of objectivity; of mulling and pondering things with a smallish group. I know what I think, and I always find out something interesting in what other people think. What has to be removed for it to work, though, are the need to be agreed with, and the fear of presenting a differing opinion. If I must have agreement, I cannot interchange ideas freely. If my inhibitions disallow me contributing contrarily, I also cannot interchange ideas freely.

These twins work together to stifle a huge amount of what might otherwise be productive observation and discussion in which almost all the participants could walk away with a new idea or two.

Now, mind you, that’s not the same as being “so open-minded that your brains fall out.” It’s being secure enough about your own thoughts to give due examination to the different ideas that others have put out there for discussion, examining and commenting without impunity, entertaining the possibility that you might find “a keeper,” and realizing that others might find such in your own contributions, as well.

Think of it as an after-dinner retreat to the Library for comfortable chairs, good brandy, and a fine cigar.

Yeah, that’s supper at our house. Usually it ends with Pat’s going into shrieking hysterics, and then I dump water on him and make the trigger-person wash the dishes. It’s bad enough that Pat is crazy without having people deliberately set him off for entertainment.

Anoreth will smoke any spare cigars.

I enjoy a good whoop-up argument, as long as, at the end, everyone says, “Hey, that was fun!” It’s not fun if people get upset.

I used to smoke “cigarillos” back in my rowdy ute, but I had to be well on the way to being drunk before I could even light one up.

These days, even the smell makes me nauseous. Part of CFIDS, of course.

Anoreth is smoking only outside in the brisk fresh air. I don’t even smell it in her clothes, to speak of.

I think today’s generation of young adults, 16-30 or so, is smoking more than people my age did, because they didn’t grow up with parents’ smoking, and because society’s institutions have placed smoking as the worst possible thing, ignoring so many other activities that are obviously immoral and productive of much more immediate health risks, such as promiscuous sex.

We have always been low-key about smoking, saying that it wasn’t our problem if others smoked, but not in our house. It’s the culture she’s in now, but as she moves up in rank or leaves the service for another phase of life, things will change.
