Just spoke with old friend, very senior retired USAF general officer/pilot. Says his contacts, many of whom were his "boys," have no idea what Pacific missile is/was
As I was calling him, he was calling me to run my old network traps to see if anyone at the network desks in NY or DC have any idea what this was!
Data from video seems to be that it was large, ballistic, (not cruise) sub-launched. Course seemed to be trans-polar, so could have impacted in Arctic, Russian Far East, China, etc.
Current guesses... and these are wild guesses (some from the O Club at his lunch)
1: Crazy Russian or Chinese sub captain. No explosion because they didn't want one, or captain did not have correct codes for the PAL.
2: Islamic.......... ????? Demonstration?????
3: Hoax... but that seems way to far fetched.
Navy is also supposedly bat sh*t over this because there was no acoustic detection of sub!
NORAD scratching head ????
There may be an explanation, but no one knows what it was... or is!
The Siberian Kamchatka peninsula, Sea of Okhotsk is the target test range for Russian ballistic missiles.
It WAS a rocket, likely solid fuel.
I have no doubt about it.
This contrail could not be produced by a fuel / air mixture engine. It is too dense, corkscrewed, with no gap between source and condensation.Jet aircraft cannot possibly mimick such a contrail , whatever atmospheric and light abherations are present. The contrail density , pattern and shear speak for itself.
And then we have this NOTAM:
A Notam was put out for that area for 20:00 yesterday.

This was a US rocket, it may or may not have been ,military.

The NOTAM does not prove it’s a US missile, it only proves that the US knew a missile was going to be launched.
Obama coordinates with a foreign power to launch a missile near US soil while he is out of the country, to create a crisis.

Somebody mentioned Quiet Subs like the new Technology Diesel the Germans have, and they sell them to others. Chinese may have one, or somebody else.
As you watch the video, however, just the opposite is the case. Although the plume is below the object, which would be consistent for the contrail of an aircraft moving almost directly toward the camera position, the object producing the plume appears to grow smaller as the video goes along, and seems to slow down, which is consistent with an object moving AWAY from the camera position; NOT toward it.
An aircraft moving more or less directly AWAY from the camera position would have left a contrail that appeared to be nearly vertical, but would have been ABOVE the plane; NOT below it.
ONLY an ascending object moving AWAY from the camera could simultaneously appear to be at the top of a nearly vertical plume, appear to be growing smaller, and seem to be slowing down.
No, if you are looking UPWARDS at the contrail, it could be made by a plane moving AWAY from you.
A low altitude helicopter view point and a plane at 5 to 6 miles high could make a “vertical looking” contrail as it moved away from you. The telephoto lens would also give a different "feel" to the visual picture.
Draw out the geometry on a piece of paper...:^)
Above explanation works if a plane is at a distance and climbing.

This wasn’t the first time Russia tested a sub-based ICBM when Obama was off playing king of the world.
Russia launched an ICBM at Obama last year while he was in Norway last year to pick up his Nobel Peace Prize. The Kenyan cut his visit to Oslo short because of the Russian stunt.
Putin is toying with Obama and sending us a message.
The NOTAM was issued the DAY AFTER the launch.
What happened was a Russian launch to taunt Obama while he was off playing King of the World.
They did it once before last year when Obama was in Oslo picking up the Nobel Peace Prize.
Putin is playing games.

Given time, this illusion will happen again, so I think that is the most powerful evidence that time will produce the same dealyo again for all to see, and even predictable given proper weather conditions, lighting, etc.
Perhaps a launch can be seen coming from the east of Cali at sunrise as well. Those Chinese are sneaky!
Oh yes. That is one of the very best out there.
Also there is Climate Depot. There are more in the way of ...sorta nutballs over there, but on the whole, the science presented at CD is very sound. Its gotten a “label” of being a skeptic site, so things linked off there automatically get discounted by the “scientific community” supporting Global warming (AGW)
Have heard it was a Chinese EMP missile from a sub that was tested against a cruise ship that disabled it. Lots of rumors and lots of concerns happening.
At the CBS site in the comments section there are comments from different vantage points. One on the beach, one on a balcony, one from a tall building. Perhaps these might lend more data for you to analyze?
