A growing number of people are cutting down on daily showering and hair-washing. So could you join the extreme soap-dodgers? If you are reading this article over breakfast, the chances are you have recently stepped into the shower, lathered up your hair and torso, rinsed off, towelled and blow-dried, before dousing your armpits with deodorant, and wafting on a fog of perfume or aftershave.

For those who are interested in the practical effects of not washing.
I’ve been on a number of backpacking trips where overall washing just wasn’t possible. Up to 3 weeks in length. Obviously heavy activity and sweating.
Day’s 2 thru about 5 are pretty unpleasant. You can smell yourself and you itch. Your hair in particular gets pretty gross.
Thereafter the discomfort pretty much goes away and you don’t really notice your own smell or that of those with you.
However, that first shower after return to civilization is one of the greatest pleasures in existence. As is a night sleeping in clean sheets. :)

Unless one has a job that gets you dirty, why take a bath or shower daily....When I was growing up, daily you freshen up using the bathroom sink and a wash cloth...Just a few years prior to my birth (1939) many homes didn't even have indoor plumbing....and one can wash up without filling a bath tub full of water or stand under a shower for 10 minutes..deodorant was always used, no one went around stinking....
Most women worked at home, and unless you lived in a hovel, how dirty do you really get...of course after gardening a bath was mandatory.
Fill a large kettle with water from your well, stoke up the stove, heat the water and put in the bath tub that you had out in the utility room, add cold water until luke warm, bathe and get out of tub...It wasn't a relaxing evening thing, it was a cleansing thing..
Thats how we did it on grandma's farm...

>>As far as baths go, I take two a day, one in the morning before work and one before bed. I cant wake up properly without the morning bath and I cant sleep without the nightly bath. :-)<<
Not being rude I hope but where do you sleep that requires you to bathe before you sleep and when you wake up?
My wife changes the sheets on the bed once a week which is sufficient for us.

I met this Irish chick in a pub in London a long time ago. She was a knockout but really funky. I gave her two bars of soap. She ate one and kept the other as a Yank souvenir!!

Could I? I have given it up. I save time there, and everywhere I go. No long lines. The restaurant staffs serve me pronto. It’s great.

I change them weekly too and I don’t bathe because I get dirty overnight. It helps me wake up and get ready for my day. I also have osteoarthritis and the warm soak helps get me moving.
