I know a lot of you guys do lo-carb diets and as I know people I assume a lot of you drink (in moderation, of course) I am wondering if you can answer my questions regarding drinking on a lo-carb diet.
Is it true that hard liquer is the best choice when on a lo-carb diet? I am avoiding beer (cries)...I've been drinking rum and diet(cries) coke. Your knowledge and experience is appreciated.
If that can be done, "Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die".
Michelob Ultra
2.6 grams of carbs
0 taste.
I can’t help you with the alcoholic side of your drink recipe. All I have to say is, drop the diet coke and drink the real thing. The diet stuff is worse for you than the real stuff. You may fool your brain, never your body.
I tried an series of experiment for a year in which I kept meticulous weight records, varied what I drank, and always order the same post drinking Royal Two Tiger Palace Banquet Meal For Eight at my Chinese food joint. Statistically, with in the margin of error, nothing varied my weight, except for the month long pints of whole milk White Russians. But, ah, I threw that data set out as it was so off.
Rock band name ping.
55 cals, 1.9 grams
Make that Select 55

I recommend water
A friend once told me that she drinks scotch and water because it is only 50 calories.
some say red is healthier but I really like white better.
Now if they would make the trains like that I would be for Hi speed rail. Alas! Alas!
But what’s the word, Thunderbird?
BOURBON AND DIET COKE? YUCKOMATIC!!!
Mic Ultra, I agree, been drinking that for a few years and it works in the cal low carb dept. I add in a few corona lights but overall I am slimer than I was 10 years ago and I eat the same, so I figure its the mic ultra lights.
FYI, Diet Coke does have a variety that is available with Splenda rather than aspartame. I’ve only seen it in cans, and it is clearly marked on the label with an oval with the word Splenda in it. It’s not bad...
DH & I have been drinking a Skinny Pirate - Diet Coke and Captain Morgan
Nectar of the gods. As a teetotaler by necessity, single malt is one thing I truly miss, but hey, at least I knew it when!
Free Descendant (great screenname!), I'm a teetotaler, and I don't hold with teetotalling, and wouldn't recommend it unless you, like me, are allergic to alcohol. Some people eat strawberries and they break out in a rash: I drink (yes, even the sainted single malt), and I break out in handcuffs, arrests, and derangement.
THAT SAID, when I stopped drinking altogether (this was many moons ago), I dropped weight dramatically.
I'm an old-fashioned person who comes from a long line of people who just naturally ate by what folks call "the Atkins" approach, it sounds to me. A healthy way to eat: unless you're expending a lot of physical energy, go easy on the starches (rice, corn, potatoes, pasta, bread) and carbs but be sure to eat some, like one with each meal or skip it and have something starchy as a snack; all the protein, vegies, and fruit you want; and if you feel like having a candy bar, have one! ;^) That last one is probaby why I was pudgy enough to lose weight when I quit drinking! And why I've still got a nice pillow around my middle. *sigh*
Any alcohol stops the carb-burning. You don’t gain weight, but you won’t lose either. For the most part, I skip the booze.
Or Glenmorangie on the rocks.
-4 alcohol. Drink it to get sober, if you absolutely must.
I do low-carb, and I drink Miller Lite. IMO, Michelob Ultra has no taste; and Miller Lite only has 3.2 carbs.
I drink in moderation, but when I do it is either a darker beer such as Alaskan Amber or Dos Exxes.
For harder drinks I tend towards Scotches or Whiskeys like Glenmorangie or Crown Royal. On the rocks, of course.
I eat a low carb diet because of diabetes, and an occasional drink doesn’t cause too much of an issue.
I completely cut out alcohol for the first 3 weeks and lost around 20 pounds during that time.
Then for the next 3 weeks I started enjoying red wine again, not every day but enough to make a difference. During those few weeks I would say I lost another 8 pounds.
After that I started with gin and diet tonic and even an occasional beer. Have lost another few pounds since but my weight loss has leveled off. Which is what I wanted to happen because I was about 25 pounds fat at the start and didn't want to loose much more than that.
