Good morning gardeners. This is the first year that I will have a fall garden. I have decided to try few broccoli and cabbage plants. I decided to visit our local County Co-Op a couple of days ago and they had starts of both and I bought a nine-pack cell of each. I hope they do well because we are still having 90 degree days with overnights in the mid to high 60s. They also had starts for various types of tomato plants which kind of surprised me.
If you are a gardener or you are just starting out and are in need of advice or just encouragement please feel free to join in and enjoy the friendly discussion. Our Freeper community is full of gardeners, each with varying interests and skill levels from Master Gardener to novice.
Don’t you dare stop posting pictures of anything. We love seeing your pictures of your Vast Bender Gardens and the Bender’s house of worship, and the various travels and exploits of the Bender family.
Be sure to go to the link supplied in the thread - lots and lots of pictures. The young Lady has some talent and time on her hands for sure. LOL
Yep, very talented, and plenty of free time.
“Very satisfying to have made dinner out of my own garden. The Yukon Golds were especially delicious. Thank you all for encouraging me in this endeavor.”
There’s no other way to live, IMHO. And you have done an AMAZING job for a relative Newbie!! :)
((((bowing head in prayer))))
What does all that fencing keep in...or out? And how long you been ‘in the pen?’ LOL!
Your flowers are beautiful. Your whole garden is beautiful and amazingly productive. Ya done good! :)
'Chocolate Cherry' tomatoes still going strong!
Gee. I'm getting kind of sick of cucumbers!
Winter is coming. You can tell by the Basset Hound and his need for his 'blankie' on these chilly going-into-Fall nights! Too soon! Too soon!
It ain't a fancy life, but it's MY life. And I love it! :)
Ping! Sorry! Didn’t mean to forget you! :)
“Diana is a fanatic about including sunflowers in the landscape.”
I can’t live without them. Well, I COULD, but I won’t, LOL! :)
Sadly, ALL of my really BIG seed-producing sunflowers (Kong, etc.) failed this season. I think it was just too, too wet for them, and not sunny enough. You got rain, you got clouds and you ain’t got no sunshine, Sunshine!
My Tithonia (Mexican Sunflower) pretty much took over the world this season, though. They brought in lots of Monarch Butterflies, which was the plan. :)
My perennial “Maximillion’ sunflowers are just getting ready to bloom. They truly are the last shot of color in my garden at the end of the season. They’re all around the chicken coop yard, so The Girls get to enjoy them...and I can see them from the kitchen window. :)
My Shrink tells me my fetish for fencing stems from my parents being to poor to own a Play Pen for me and my 5 siblings. The chain link stops the little Black Tail deer and the Kentucky Downs fence is to keep my neighbor’s hugh and series whale of a cow out of the landscaping. Nothing stops the Bear...
Who needs a play pen when there’s plenty of traffic to play in? :)
My little sister was a Houdini child. Mom would put the playpen upside down on TOP of her to keep her contained, LOL!
Thank you, Ma’am. A high compliment, indeed, coming from you.
So far, I've made it with whole milk and 2% milk. The whole milk results a more firm product, although I did add a package of Knox gelatin to the 1st batch, as described at the link. You can see the ladle sitting on top of the product. When I added gelatin, the yogurt was more like the store bought variety, and the ladle was a steel one.
Here is a finished batch of 2% yogurt.
Remove 1/2 cup and save for a starter for your next batch.
Divide the rest of the yogurt into several containers to use, as needed. You can stir in fruit and/or sugar or Splenda at this point, or wait until it is ready to use. Store in the refrigerator. I like this over dry cereal as a change from my usual breakfast oatmeal.
I just got through canning three pints of my homegrown pears. I hope they turn out ok. My there was a lot of waste from these pears. I let a few of them get just a little ripper than they needed to be. The dogs loved the over ripe parts.
Psssstttt...this is urgent... call the fbi as a close family member by marriage has me captive pruning the Cecil Brunner rose in the orchard. please hurry
