A Brooklyn couple who pre-boarded JetBlue Flight 1052 on Monday said flight attendant Steven Slater's forehead was bleeding before all but one other passenger was allowed on the plane.
Their account is the most recent to cast doubt on the flight attendant's version of the events that led to his now-famous exit via the plane's emergency chute.
Marta and Rudyard Crichlow, who were returning from visiting family in Pittsburgh, were allowed on the flight early because they were traveling with their 20-month-old daughter, Grace. Ms. Crichlow said the plane was "empty' save one other passenger, a curly-haired man wearing eyeglasses. That man was carrying on what Ms. Crichlow said appeared to be a friendly conversation with Mr. Slater. "There was no drama," she said.
Mr. Slater waved at the little girl as the family passed him in the aisle, then went back to his conversation, she said.
The only thing out of the ordinary at that time, Ms. Crichlow said, was that Mr. Slater had a cut on his head.

Can you say, Balloon Boy?
A matter of concern re the bloody cut would be Slater's HIV+ status, if true.
Here's a solution ~ guy got smacked in the head ~ was dingy ~ and sought to relieve the pain with a couple of beers ~ got dingier!
Planes, as we all realize by now, don't carry aspirin.
They don’t carry aspirin? I didn’t know that. In fact, I think that once or twice I was able to get an analgesic, either asprin or tylenol, while on Northwest and I definitely have gotten it from a non-US airline.
The medical privacy act a few years back (why you have to stand in line far away from the counter at the pharmacy) had some stuff in it about providing nonprescription medicine to others ~ it's a corporate NO NO.
We had to REMOVE aspirin, et al, from our office first aid cabinet. I kept the junk in my desk drawer though and everybody in the office knew where it was ~ acetomeniphine, aspirin, etc, Had 'em all, and the folks with the VA head injury project downstairs had a stash that'd stop an elephant!
I do think it was back in the 90s when I got the NWA pain killer. Usually now I travel with my own pharmacoepia. But occasionally I get caught w/o. Since my longer and most painful trips are overseas, I make it a point to ride on a non-US airline. So, that has been my latest foray into airline analgesic.
Perhaps being in obvious pain to the point of nausea helps one get the meds.
I wonder if he hurt himself off duty and decided to try to make it look like he hurt himself at work, so he could file a workers comp claim.
Some random thoughts:
1. From personal experience (struck in the eyebrow by a shard of cast iron)lacerations to the face bleed PROFUSELY (as in stream, not drips).
2 Scalp lacerations — same (personal experience).
3 This leads me to the conclusion that the wound in question was very shallow — a scratch.
The words “AIDS Dementia” keep repeating in my mind.
