Which, if any, of the four options being looked at for privatizing the state liquor store system do you prefer?
Privatize retail and wholesale operations and auction licenses to distributors and sellers of spirits.
Retain control of retail and wholesale operations and use private retailers to sell spirits for the state
Sell wholesale and retail rights to a corporate partner.
Allow the more than 3,000 Virginia stores already licensed to sell wine and beer to also market liquor
Make no changes.

I hate to buy liquor in Virginia. The ABC stores have a dreary Soviet atmosphere and the selection leaves much to be desired. As much as I hate the District, I make a run to Schneider’s of Capitol Hill when I need to stock up. Fab store, great selection, they know their wine, (parking nightmare). I don’t know what people in the outlying counties do, but I can only image they are as unimpressed with ABC as I am. The state has no business being in the liquor business.

That's a good start.
Here's a good target:
Maywood, California, lays off all employees (First City in U.S. to outsource all city functions)
Too bad it wasn't part of an intentional strategy.
Having grown up and lived in a very nearby city I can say that they deserve the situation they're in.
Never understood having to make a seperate stop just for liquor.
In Pennsylvania if you want just a six-pack you have to into a bar. Or you can buy an entire case at the state store.
Much better to get it from the isle of the local supermarket when doing other shopping or even the corner convenience store.

The grocery stores in Virginia already can sell beer and wine. The ABC stores are where you have to go for “hard” liquor, spirits, etc.
And why shouldn't you be able to buy "hard" liquor at the grocery store? Trying to figure why people would be so inconvenienced.
I tend to agree. I think it all goes back to prohibition. But I enjoy going to a good liquor store to look around and discover things. That’s how I found Fernet Branca. And Pimm’s.
