Wonder Woman has a bold new look, one of the most dramatic changes of her 70-year history.
Criticized for years for fighting crime in effectively a one-piece swimsuit often considered either sexist or simply impractical the DC Comics icon has a new costume as of this week's Wonder Woman #600, and it's one considerably less revealing, complete with long pants and a jacket. Signature elements such as the character's bracelets, tiara and magic lasso remain. The costume was designed by acclaimed penciler and DC Comics co-publisher Jim Lee.
DC Comics announced the change Tuesday evening.
"Its a look designed to be taken seriously as a warrior, in partial answer to the many female fans over the years whove asked, 'how does she fight in that thing without all her parts falling out?'" said incoming series writer J. Michael Straczynski.

I couldn’t possibly disapprove more.
Best...anigif...ever...
I had forgotten that. I guess I was hoping that Cap would start kicking Commie butt and going after Red Skull like the old days.
A guy can dream cant he?
I seem to remember an ill-advised change to a 70’s styled white pantsuit for WW in the 70’s. They should leave it alone. She’s a superhero(ine).
Aeon Flux is the ultimate warrioress, and has a very skimpy uniform:
Ah, yes. You mean THIS (mercifully) brief flash of awfulness, doubtless:
The stated goal at that point, IIRC, was to make Wonder Woman more like the (then-)popular "Emma Peel" character, from British TV hit The Avengers.
How about they eliminate all signs of her gender at all. Make her kind of a “Wonder Pat”? A totally androgynous thing.
I suppose it’s better than cutting off her right breast like a real Amazon. Make her ugly and undesirable, so that her real feminism comes through. Like a younger Helen Thomas.
No reason for gender in superhero freaks anyway. It’s not like they are supposed to be role models, or anything more than a nuisance to society. No reason that anyone should think they are attractive.
You know there had to be more than a few wardrobe malfunctions on the WW set back then.
Gang banger jacket looks lame.
Didn’t Marvel try those in the late 90s on several titles?
Too much time in Washington can do that to a person.
Yep, that’s it. I actually had an issue of hers in that getup. Never made the connection with Emma Peel; but I can see that’s probably where they were going.
Wonder woman and the invisible man were making love when Superman came flying over.......
And yet these “feminists” believe that it is their personal liberation to have sex anywhere anytime (and negate the consequences with abortion), while they bring it on with un-modest clothes??
Maybe now at least they are being consistent (not that I like liberals messing with a comic icon).
Well back in the day she always looked a bit "manly"
(if you know what I mean)
I always prefered Black Canary: she has always been a babe.
And the secret identity of the Smallville version of BC is .. a conservative newspaper columist.
Two great lines on this subject were:
1. I think it was Captain Brackett to Lt. Cable in South Pacific explaining how men (like me LOL) can still attract the lasses and find them equally attractive when he said, "...I, myself, am over fifty...I do not consider myself...through!!!"
2 We have a local radio talk show guy who is about my age. He once said something I can't for the life of me recall, but a young lady listener called and asked when he was going to stop being lecherous. He replied, "Never, I hope."
A corollary these days, while the subject rarely came up in my youth, is the lasses on my side of fifty are lookers of the first order. I'm pretty sure that will remain true for the next two decades, at least.
P.S. My grand kids do, indeed, wear me out. Last weekend they beat me up...just beat me right up. My wife was unsympathetic. She said I knew when I sat down on the floor they were going to come and jump all over me. I'm pretty sure if they come at me one at a time or even follow normal tag off rules I can still beat both of them two pin falls out of three.
