The other day I was 15 minutes into UFC when I realized it wasn’t Part II of that night’s episode of “Sanctuary.”

Most of their movies are already an insult to the intelligence of SciFi fans. Mega Shark, Meka Parahana, Uber Goldfish.. all pure camp.

I thought rasslin' was on Skippy Spike.

SyFy is losing its punch. I like Eureka - no word on its return. Watching Firefly for the first time (on Blu-Ray).

Enjoyed BSG, but couldn't get over the fact that though the cylons destroyed all but 35,000 humans, they still called the humans violent and blamed the humans for all that was bad.

I am enjoying Jusitified on FX, though.

Sci-Fi blew it a long time ago. Stargate Universe, Sci-Fi’s version of “As the Stomach Churns, the Outer Space version”. BLECH!

Hubby and I used to watch SyFy all the time. (Okay, I admit, it was mostly him, but I’d stay in the room when it was something I was at least able to stomach.) We hardly watch it any more. It’s gotten terribly cheesy.

*sigh* - Just like Hollywood; the last really good Science Fiction Movie that came out that springs readily to mind is Serenity.

Iron Man was really good, and you might consider it Sci-Fi-ish... but I’m classifying comic-book movies on their own.

Star Trek was ‘alright’ there are things that I really didn’t like though: Why would a ‘mining ship’ have weapons? Much less ones that could destroy, with ease, the “state of the art” semi-warships of a hundred or so years in the past. And, well, Star Trek REALLY screwed up the Romulans... with “Nemesis’s” ‘Remans’ being both slaves AND the empire’s infantry (”Yeah, let’s give our slaves weapons!!”) was REALLY dumb. The Romulans were great in TOS (Balance of Terror is one of my favorite episodes); in TNG and DS9 they were similarly good. But in Nemesis, Enterprise, and this new Star Trek they suck.

The only thing I cared about was BSG and Caprica (barely).

Sy-fy might as well become Spike TV 8: the Ocho.

Well, the bad CGI and cheesy monster effects couldn’t go on forever. But these will be sad times for Steve Guttenberg.

Yes, like it or not, all those shows now occupying prime-time nerd night [Friday night], what was once the beloved “Battlestar Galactica’s” place of honor, will shuffle off to Tuesday to make room for the new two-hour block of bikini-clad men. “Stargate Universe,” “Sanctuary” and “Battlestar Galactica” prequel “Caprica” — some of Syfy’s best current content to make a date-free Friday night seem worthwhile — must simply make way for the guys with the big guns.

It’s as if the core audience, the sci-fi buffs that made the network a success to begin with, just don’t matter any more. It’s their programming that gets pushed aside. They’re the ones expected to alter their longtime viewing habits for the sake of the “Wrestlemania”-loving crowd. No one asked “SmackDown” to make a change.

Ping for later

When it started I had great hopes for SyFy, but I was quickly disappointed. It hand great potential, but is clearly run by people who not only don’t enjoy sci-fi, but couldn’t care less for it!

So many shows they could have picked-up (Firefly, John Doe, Brimestone, etc.)and some they could have reimgined (Alien Nation for one, hell they had an excellent show when they brought on Jim Butcher’s ‘The Dresden Files’ but didn’t stay behind it. The could have run a program much like the one I think the Discovery Channel has done and combined classic scifi movies and the real science behind them. A late night schedule were they would simalcast the radio program ‘Coast to Coast with George Noory’ and then follow-up with a ‘Adult Swim’like line-up of scifi cartoons. They could have brought back old shows for kids like ‘Fireball XL Five, Super Car’. They could have done all of this instead of running lame wrestling and even lamer made for SyFy movies, but no they turned the network over to people with no knowledge or interest in Science Fiction.

TV, as the Automobile, is dead. Stop paying for it.

All of these channels are just cloned conglomerations of their neighbors.

We didn’t see this coming ? The meme of the 90s was “MTV doesn’t play music anymore... at all”. it’s now 2010 and the song still remains the same.

After being the joke of Television, they STILL didn’t change their venue. They don’t care about viewers, they care about ad revenue.

It seems like half the time I flick over to SyFy, they’re showing ‘Ghost Hunters’.

Ghost Hunters is the dumbest show ever.

A bunch of people walking through old buildings in the dark with night vision and pretending to hear noises.

SyFy really sucks now.
It seems every time i turn it on there is some ridiculous wrestling show on.
If not wrestling then it is a marathon of the moronic Ghost Hunter shows.
When there is a movie on it’s a day of giant snake and alligator movies.
Bleh.

I read an article a couple of years ago about how SciFi made a deal: 100 made for SciFi channel movies for 100 million $.

Every time I see an ad for Mega-Whatever I think about how they absolutely churn those things out like a production line.

Nothing makes me turn the channel faster than rasslin’

The Lost Room and Dark Kingdom were great. The rest of SciFi turned to crap and I finally pulled the plug on them, along with the rest of Comcast's lineup.

So long, Syfy! Change into phony, juicer, garbage, wrestling, "hick" TV and you will find that WE no longer need you!

First you changed your name (Can you say DUMB?), now this. Sci Fi WAS the station we have faithfully turned to on Friday nights for years because you HAD decent, engaging and interesting shows, I guess those days are over.

Whoever is deciding on your programming choices needs to be fired.

I agree with most of the sentiments expressed in this thread, but I do have to say that every now and then, even a blind pig will find an acorn.

I haven't seen anyone mention the movie "Riverworld." While it certainly didn't hold to Farmer's novel, it was still a very enjoyable 3 or 4 hour movie (I noticed that most commercial breaks had a LOT of commercials... I counted as many as 10 in a row!)
