Printer Problem Help?

Posted on 03/19/2010 8:17:44 AM PDT by brytlea

I hope this won't get me in trouble, and I'm not sure I put this in the right place, but I know that Freepers are the smartest people on earth and I am in need of tech help. I have a HP B8350 printer that suddenly is telling me there is a problem with the cartridges. Initially it said the tri-color cartridge had a problem and suggested I take it out and put it back in and/or replace it. I did both of those things, and it still will not print (just continues to give me an error window when I try). I stupidly took the other cartridge out to see if there was some issue with the way the problem one was put in, and when I put it back in the light started blinking for that one too! At any rate, I have tried unplugging the printer, turning everything off and back on, and taking out and reinserting the cartridges. I am working on a project and need to print and I really don't want to have to buy another printer (this is the large format pro model, so a little more expensive to replace). Can anyone give me some ideas. Oh, yeah, I did go to the HP website and google, but have not found anything about this particular problem. :(

Thank you, but I did run across that. It is not the cartridges my computer uses.

Have you tried cleaning the contacts on the cartridges and reinserting them?

I am not certain how to do that. One of the cartridges is brand new, straight from the package (and yes, I remembered to pull the tape off!). I will try that, but what is the best way to clean them?

Did you REPLACE ALL cartridges with NEW ones?

That will most likely fix the problem.

Just recently a friend had a similar problem, replaced only the black one, printer still didn’t work, then replaced all cartridges and printer works fine now.

I think our techie relies on q-tips and alcohol. What is the exact error you are seeing?

Have you gone into your configuration and tried re-loading the drivers for the printer?

I’ll try that even if it doesn’t make sense (because to people like me not much about computers makes sense, it’s like a magical world which is cool but mysterious!)

Trying to avoid that as a sort of last thing, since it scares me! LOL

Problem with the black print cartridge

There is a problem with the black print cartridge. To solve the problem:
1. Remove the print cartridge.
2. Reinsert the print cartridge.

If the problem persists, replace the print cartridge.

If you have a printer, then you have problems. Never met a printer that I didn’t dislike.

I had the same type of problem with an HP all-in-one printer.

Can’t remember all the contortions I went through, and how many new cartridges I bought trying to get it to work. But eventually got a diagnosis that there is air in the conducting tubes and was referred to HP.

I junked the printer and got another one.

The printer manual will have instructions on how the printer self cleans the cartridges.

Just follow the prompts - I have XP, go to the hardware manager, select the device and right mouse click to update the driver.

I have a Brother color fax/printer and it sometimes gives me the same messages you're getting.

When I replace all the cartridges, the problem goes away. Ticks me off, though.

OK, done, still have flashing red lights telling me there are problems with the cartridges.

I would delete it and then windows reinstall it. That is if windows has the driver as a utility. If windows doesn’t, I would still delete it and install with the install software it came with.
