I have to laugh just a little, because we get a few hummers around and my mom insists that they don’t have feet. I have tried to assure her that they do indeed have feet, but I think she just believes me to be insolent...

I’m going to get some decent hummingbird pics this summer. They’re no longer afraid of me and I bought a much faster lens. (faster in the wide aperture sense).

I had a chance some years ago to get some incredible shots of hummers .... didn't have my camera with me at the time though. My in-laws had well over 200 one season. The swarm was so big that the humming of their wings was very loud. They'd fly right up to us too. They had 5 feeders out that year and were constantly refilling them just to keep up with the demand. It was quite a sight!

That is cool - will help remind me when to put the feeders out.

It’s too bad that we only get the one variety.

I used to live in a deep woods environment with a lot of flowers around my house in gardens.

I would have hummingbirds eat from the feeder as I held it in my hand. The feeder was never without a bird on it for longer than 5 seconds when it was hanging in a tree.

Discovered this when it ran out of my "special blend" and I took it in to refill and as I was walking to put it back in the tree, two hummingbirds landed on it.

So, I would entertain my grandchildren by having them sit in a lawn chair on the deck and feed the hummingbirds.

It is ... which makes us appreciate them all the more!

My annual logs show that the sightings posted on the map are pretty accurate compared to what actually occurs in my neck of the woods...maybe by only one or two days diff. Perhaps it will be the same for you.
