I’m going to get some decent hummingbird pics this summer. They’re no longer afraid of me and I bought a much faster lens. (faster in the wide aperture sense).

Boy do we have them in NM. FIrst the Black Chinned show up, then the Broad Tails, and finally the pyscho Rufous. Have also seen Anna’s and a Calliope.
The most I ever counted around the feeders were 30.
With a perchless feeder, I can hold out my finger and they’ll land on it to feed. Absolutely fearless little birds.

Great video - we had our first Rufous hummer at the feeder yesterday, a week sooner than last year. Southern Puget Sound area.

I once watched one hit my truck in the driveway and fall to the ground. I picked it up thinking it was dead.
It stayed in my hands for 30 minutes slowly waking up, then took off..and almost hit my truck again.

I see hummers around all the time. I don't do anything to attract them but I may try this year.
The first time I saw one up close I was sitting in a meadow resting. I was out of the Marine Corps and at a Geology Summer camp in Flagstaff, Az. It was flitting around all around me and finally just came up and stared me in the eyes - about two feet away - amazing for me!

I planted some trumpet vines several years ago and they’re finally starting to take off. If those don’t attract hummingbirds nothing will.

Thank you for posting this, Swampsniper! I love hummers! I collect items with hummingbirds on them. Today I got an umbrella with hummers on it that I ordered on Amazon. :~D

we had a circular feeder that had a post sticking up from the top that you hung on the tree with a saucer like feeder with little feeding spots....there was also a ring of plastic around the outside so the little guys could rest...
one evening I just happend to look out and a hummer had somehow wedged himself under the lip and was stuck there....
we thought it was a goner...but my hubby gently pulled it out, held it for a few minutes...it didn't move....must have been stunned...but it eventually got its mojo back and flew away.

I managed a few cardinals last weekend, but I don’t have a hummingbird feeder. Share your shots when you get them!

Gonna be a while before I see any hummingbirds around here. I just saw my first robin today.

Thanks, Swampy! Great up close and personal on the hummers! They’re such crazy, interesting little flitters! I think the only ones we have here are the ruby throated. Love to watch them.

I assume they are here all year, but since I’ve never put out a feeder, I don’t see them.
