I have always thought this was a great site to get great political info. I come here for political/journalistic references. If you are going to make your queries 'Religious,' why not go to the religious talking board. I have been slammed here on what people believe is my perceived religion. These were for comments which didnt mention religion, and didnt have religious overtones. I
(That's what I thought...not much depth given to your initial comments on this...why should I expect more to your latter ones???)
And Spiff...he doesn't dialogue much, anymore, any way...a crickets mentality...not very personal.
(So much for "conservative unity"...let us know what banner you're raising that we need to raise a tent under)
so few threads about socks.
*sigh*
Religion reminds folks where they came from and where they are going. Some are intolerant of that aspect. Godspeed. :^)
Same here to a large degree...it at least stepped up my comments on FR.
I would see the vast hypocrisy on Romney threads by so many FReepers. On the one hand, if Hillary Rodham Clinton were to have announced during her candidacy that she saw the White House as a just a "career step" on her way to the White Throne of godhood on the other side of death...FReepers would have had a field day with her.
But Romney, who believes this -- that he is as Lds leaders have said -- a "god-in-embyro" [I dare FReepers to google "god-in-embryo" and Lds & see what you come up with] who will one day rule his own planet??? A free pass...
Or what if Obama came right out & said, "Yup, I'm a Messiah, after all." Free passes for such an Obama claim from FR??? (Not on your life)
But Romney? No, we're just suppose to "unite" under some weak, very weak, extremely weak premise of some generic "conservative" unification...guess you could call it "The Unification [Political] Church" movement were it not for the reality the name's already been claimed. [Guess ya gotta ignore the reality that cults also control the Washington Times all in the name of it being a more "conservative" venue than the Post, eh Fr_Freak???]
I just like to have a little fun. There's nothing un-Christian about light-heartedness. ;-)
I swear like an old drunken veteran from time to time but I always know where my blessings come from. I see them every day. :^)
Can't get much more "hostile" than for your tithing dollars to go for the world-wide expanded translation & publishing of these passages -- that you and yours consider yourselves to be the "only true and living church upon the faith of the earth." (Doctrine & Covenants 1:30)
Spiff, why is your church so hostile to any other being a true and living one?
Do you adhere to 100% of Doctrine & Covenants as your authoritative "scripture?"
How "tolerant" is a Mormon "prophetic revelation" like this one?
If you buy this verse as true, why won't you address your own inconsistency here?
Is the Mormon church the church of the Lamb, as recorded in the Book of Mormon (1 Nephi 14:9-10)? If so, what label does that leave for the rest of the church sects?
How "hospitable" is it for the Mormon church to label the rest of us as "Satanic?" And then not just to claim that is their mere "opinion" -- but to actually claim this is "God's" estimate of us.
Why, how flattering Spiff.
These "scriptures" alone give lie to the Mormon claim that they're so nice & cozy with the rest of us. 'Cause if they were as cozy as they say they are, they wouldn't say one thing to our FReeper face and then turn around and slander us up & down & around the world with their...
...Ensign articles like Kent Jackson (1984) labeling us all apostates...which is still online today through Lds.org...
..."Gospel Principles" basics books for all newcomers to their church...
...books by general authorities & other Lds leaders on our so-called 100% apostasy...
...million-plus missionaries they've had since 1830... accompanied by 4-point outlines that Marion Romney, cousin of George Romney (one of the 3 highest-ranked Mormons in the 1960s), who when he was head of "Lds Missionary Enterprise, Inc." would tell the thousands of Lds missionaries to emphasize our supposed "apostasy" and restoration in their door-to-door conversations...
Until Mormons address this, then those like Spiff who complain about supposed "hostility," thereby displays outright hypocrisy and lack of intellectual integrity over this sharp inconsistency.
Do something, Spiff, about your worldwide slander of us & it might yield us to "perk up." Otherwise, as my tagline says: "If you're not going to drink the coffee, at least wake up and smell it."
Outright bigotry is usually well-controlled by the moderators. If something ugly slips through, it can be challenged.
I do sometimes wonder what decent folks who are Muslims think of what they read here.
Well, allow me to temporarily put "Mormonism" aside to address your "very simple ideas," as you put it (and I agree, they are "simple").
Here, as best as I can sum up, was your simplified idea(s) -- so that you know I am indeed trying to hear out your basic points:
...whatever only serves to divide us at a time when we all need to be as united as possible...
What ends up happening here, though, is that we get different factions of people who all hate the leftism infecting our country, but instead of being united in the fight against that, they are at each others' throats over whose religion is the perfect one
What's wrong with these statements?
(1) You superimpose your own motives onto ours -- as if our "goal" was simply to erect "the perfect religion" and dismiss others as imperfect.
(2) You make the mistake Reaganaut pointed out earlier. As she said, unlike some people, we have the ability to multi-task. You make the same mistake that the John Birchers made with communism -- whereby they presented the Communists as the only ones who were declaring war on them. (Sorry, but many others had opened up fronts on us besides the communists; just like I hate to break it to you, but many others besides the leftists have opened up fronts on us).
And you also said:
...Ol' Jim allows that, presumably because the Judeo-Christian belief system is a huge part of American conservatism...
Yes. Now, in light of what you also just said -- that some of the commentary you've seen is part of a bunch of the very same useless denominational crap that I just got done saying had no useful business on a political forum -- tell me again how this statement fits with what you said earlier about how "the Judeo-Christian belief system is a huge part of American conservatism...?"
Are you saying to us thereby, "Yes, you're a huge part of the big tent -- but we just want your section of the Big Tent to say a few 'Amens!' to our political agenda & otherwise be silent" -- to quote you ("no useful business on a political forum") ... 'cause you know, you're not exactly "scoring points" with this vision of the conservative big tent.
I wouldn't say evil. Deluded, sometimes. Presumptuous, and wrong, usually.
Exercizing the First Amendment.
Here you go with the novel again. All I said was stop fighting about religion so much and focus on politics. Exactly what is so difficult to understand about that? If you want to fight about religion, go bug someone else.
‘Youre kidding right?’
No.
Oh, and thirdly:
Can you tell me why YOU "getting" at OUR throats over our religious vision being integrated with our political vision is apparently A-OK for YOU to do...
...but if some of US take umbrage over how others have merged their religious vision with their political vision...
...(I mean, what? You haven't seen all the Mormon "White Horse prophesy" threads about how the Lds will rise up & save our constitution?)...
...then what we say is relegated by YOU as "useless crap" deserving of "no useful business"???
Isn't that a wee bit on the inconsistent side? (I mean, if we're all just supposed to be 100% tolerant of every religious belief out there...well, at least if it's adhered to by a block of so-called "conservatives"...then doesn't that imply that YOU are suppose to be tolerant of OUR religious vantage points, too? Or have you joined the leftist doctrine of "tolerance for thee but not for me?" crowd without even knowing you're an effective proselyte of it???)
Wanna explain why your irreligious vantage point on the dynamics of faith & politics somehow holds some kind of "trump card" posture over other positions?
Did you ever notice with Anne Coulter's book Godless how she carefully showed that -- despite all claims to the contrary -- even atheistic liberals wind up being zealously religious in their worldview? You see, even a supposedly "non-religious" claim that faith & politics should generally be separated is in and of itself a decidedly "faith-based, religious" worldview -- based upon whatever authority you claim as your guiding light.
So I'm interested in knowing what authority you appeal to in stating your position to be one that garners respect?
Some, I repeat SOME, of the posts are democrat party cyper-thug disruptors.
Another novel? Be honest - you’re just screwing around now, right? This is some kind of avant-garde satire or something?
Could you move the 'prompter a bit more to the left?
