Sudden disappearance of Deep River scientist mystifies colleagues

TORONTO - There are still no leads in the case of an eastern Ontario scientist who disappeared without a trace last month, leaving his colleagues mystified. Lachlan Cranswick hasn't been seen since Jan. 18, when he left work at the National Research Council's Canadian Neutron Beam Centre in Chalk River, northwest of Ottawa.

His nearby Deep River house was reportedly left unlocked and his car was in the garage. His wallet, keys and passport have all been accounted for......

He’s a graduate of Monash University in Australia; then after he got his doctorate, he went on to work on a post doc at Daresbury Laboratory in England.

Thanks to WS for the hint that this exists - someone who has the same name as LC's elder brother, the Australian pediatrician, and this other man attended a conference in Abu Dabai in 2007. At WS, they stated that this name NEIL belongs to one of the great great grandfathers or some male ancestor, so many relatives of LC may bear this name, not just his brother:

I'll bet it's all an entirely false lead. I presume that these folks may be from the S.African branch of the family, and MAY possibly be 3rd or 4th or 5th cousins of LC, people who he may be aware of on family trees but doesn't know in real life. This would prolly be a child of the Abu Dhabi plant's manager.

The posting I noticed at WS, mentioned a MIDDLE name, and although I've been aware of Andrew CRANSWICK for quite a few days, I had NO idea that this Zimbabwean Diamond Mine Powerhouse actually bears the name, Andrew N o e l CRANSWICK. I have NO idea if he is closely related to the Australian Cranwicks, and have no inclination to conduct genealogical research about same.

However, Andrew is very frequently in the news:

I remeber reading that LC wrote about being related in some way to Bishop Rupert Cranswick of Rhodesia --- and thus one of his brothers is named Rupert; IF the other brother Noel and Andrew N. Cranswick share the same 'NOEL' male ancestor, that Dr. Lachlan Michael David Cranswick is related to the CEO of one of the currently largest operating diamond mines in Zimbabwe.

So, whilst others have posited a possible kidnapping with either terrorists or rogue states responsible, it is possible that if he was abducted that there exists a ransom note somewhere.

Anything is possible with Lachlan, but I believe he simply vanished of his own accord & volition.

Here's a very interesting article, and particlularly the comment left which states that years ago, on the Mexican/USA border, a gang of drug traffickers were seriously into human sacrifice -- you remember them, right?

I'd thought that they were only identified after mass graves were found, but according to one of the remarks left below, the Smiley Face Murders present the same M.O. as the drug cartel satanists.
