Some .45 cal wheel guns are now made with long cyclinder chambers to take a .410 shot case, and you can get a deerriger that will shoot either .45 ammo or .410 shot.
You also can by .45 cal ammo with a fine shot load.

...From the article it sounds like he used a Taurus Judge, which is a revolver designed to fire both .45 Colt rounds and .410 shotgun shells...

Why was he using bird shot? He should have been using 00 buck shot or a 45 caliber round.
