Place your "A Christmas Story" thoughts here
Let him know it's Italian.
Ralph's mom - Do you know where he heard it from???
Mrs. Schwartz - Yeah, his father!!
Yep- about that same age (but a Crossman pump - still have it!). I remember my first “deer hunt” with my older brother and dad - toting my trusty BB gun! After lunch we had to go over /through a barbed wire fence and I didn’t hand my BB gun off for someone to hold as I climbed through the fence.
I spent most of the rest of the day sitting alone at the lunch spot without my BB gun.
I sure miss my old man.
Be sure to drink your Ovaltine. Ovaltine? A crummy commercial? Son of a b#tch!
Yeah, I don’t think Vet got it.
Its a major award!
Agree 100% with your opinion of Shep but shouldn’t that brew be Atlas Praeger? ;o)
You’re in KC?
My MIL went to the performance of “A Christmas Story”, and she loved it... but, then again, I don’t call her my “lib-in-law” for nothing.
A great story from a great storyteller.

I probably tell this every year, but when my son was about 9 or 10 we did the Red Ryder scene. Word for word. He still talks about it. He’s now 27. Luckily, it is all on film.
“”In the heat of battle my father wove a tapestry of obscenities that as far as we know is still hanging in space over Lake Michigan.””
“””I always get a tear in my eye when I remember getting my first BB gun at Christmas 40 years ago.””””
Yeah, but was it an official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle?
That’s my favorite line.
I never had a BB gun. My Dad hid a present from me like “Christmas Story” when I was a teen-ager, though. He led me all over the house with notes that had clues to follow - at trail’s end was a Remington M700 in .264 Winchester Magnum.
My son got his first deer rifle the same way.
Semper Fi,
Jean Shepherd reads the BB gun episode from his book (Duel in the Snow, or Red Ryder Nails the Cleveland Street Kid), parts 1 through 5:

Watch it at least once a year, along with some other favorites... miracle on 34th st., its a wonderful life, then after christmas, 7 brides for 7 brothers and the king and i... then on new years, twilight zone.
I am that kid with the glasses, right down to licking the ice cold flagpole— but didn’t have a brother or Dad at home.
We even had the dogs eat our turkey at my Grandmother’s house one year but instead of going out to dinner somewhere we just had to cowboy up and eat all the vegetables and dressing.
He had yellow eyes...YELLOW EYES.
